How do you use Instant Hotspot between iPhone and iPad (wifi) ??

I updated both my devices to iOS 8, and still seeing the old Personal Hotspot thing.

I followed the instruction, re-enabled it many times, but no luck.

I see iPhone's hotspot, with lock icon and no battery icon

The phone call feature is *really irritating*. This afternoon I received my first incoming phone call after installing iOS8 on both my iPhone and iPad. The caller could hardly understand me because the damned ringtone on the iPad continued after I picked up the phone. Google brought me to this page and others claiming the feature is called "Continuity", but there are no settings for that. I had to search through a long list of settings before finding the option to turn off "iPhone Cellular Calls" in the Facetime settings ... (yes, "Facetime", the word is so similar to "Continuity" ;)).

    Because it isn’t supposed to.

Quit the FUDmongering. It doesn’t work when you’re proven wrong by Apple.com itself.

With what? Did you mean to log into your other account? Otherwise:

I don't think it is necessary to jump all over someone because they didn't see the "coming to October" box buried on a page on Apple's web site.

It is when they post that way.

"Continuity requires an iPhone 5 or later, fourth-generation iPad or newer, iPad mini, or fifth-generation iPod touch."

Continuity must mean a lot of things to Apple because they group various activities under the heading.  The passing of a phone call from the iPhone to an iPad or to a Mac works with the iPhone 4S running iOS 8.  Apple's website says that feature works over the Wi-Fi network when the devices are on the same network.  I just tested the feature and my iPhone 4S passed the call to my iPad Air and my MacBook Pro (late 2011) running Beta 3.  Good to know for reselling the iPhone 4S with iOS 8.

The only way I can get draft e-mails and Safari to flow between the iPad and iPhone is if Bluetooth is turned on and the iPad is using hotspot on my phone/cellular network. It is not working when Bluetooth is off and only using my wi-fi network.

Also, I thought we were going to be able to send text messages from the iPad to anyone on any device, on any OS, on any network......I cannot do it! From my iPad, I can still only send to other's with iMessage turned on. What am I doing wrong?

The only way I was able to see a draft e-mail or Safari from the iPad to iPhone or visa versa is by turning on the Bluetooth and connecting the iPad to the "hotspot" on my phone (thus using cellular data).  It does not work for me if I am only using wi-fi on both devices.

I agree!  The only way I can get draft e-mails and Safari to show up on the other device is if I turn on Bluetooth on my iPad and it is connected to my iPhone as a "hotspot" (thus using cellular data).  It does not work for me if only connected via wi-fi.

I also cannot send text messages from my iPad to others not in the iMessages network.  I too get "send failure" when sending a text from the iPad to someone with a non-Apple product.  :(

I use the third generation iPad and last night I was surprised when a phone call popped up on my iPad for me to accept. I don't know if this article is misinformed or I was only able to accept the call via iPad because it was placed from my friends iPhone... Has anyone else had this experience with the third generation iPad?

I've tried to use continuity works fine. I can be on a webpage on my iPad and go to my iPhone and loads the page and vice versa. The cellular calling doesn't work. Tells me "cannot turn on iPhone cellular calls. FaceTime and iCloud must be signed in to the same Apple ID to use iPhone cellular calls" I've had two apple ids for a long time. I had my original which was my gmail account then apple launched the me.com/Mac.com/iCloud.com iCloud accounts. So I have an iCloud account which all my backups etc are done to and then my gmail.com address has all my purchases over the years(apps/songs/movies/iTunes match etc) on it. It's always been that way. Unfortunately I don't have my ICloud and Apple id the same. Basically for of those like me we can't ever use the feature they are promoting as my FaceTime(iCloud) will never be the same as my Apple ID (gmail).

Anyone know how I get this to work then. There has to be just a huge number of people who have this situation of the two Apple ids. Any help would be appreciated. 8-):\

I know this is a late comment, but the continuity feature--answering iPhone calls on another device--does indeed work on an iPad 3rd Generation. I used my iPad 3rd gen 24 hours ago to answer a phone call that came in on my iphone 5s.

I have a third gen iPad (last one with the dock connecter) and am using Yosemite public beta.

Continuity works for me - it's noisy. The phone rings, the iPad and the Mac make the FaceTime noise and the Mac makes it LOUD.

I wish I were as lucky. Like many others, I can't get ANY of it to work. For example, my iPod sees the iPhone as an option for the hotspot, but it won't connect. Calls come in to the iPod, but it can't connect when I try to answer. The Safari et al continuity doesn't work either. Seems like "It Just Works" died along with Steve Jobs. Apple isn't the same company it used to be. Features rushed out and ideas copied from Samsung. The iPhone 6 plus is an unholy behemoth that probably has poor Steve rolling in his grave, if the low quality of Apple products of late hasn't caused him to start turning already.
