A trio of interesting updates hit the App Store recently as the New York Times announced on Monday that it will makes content in its popular NYT Now app available for free this week, 1Password gained native support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and Angry Birds Star Wars II was on the receiving end of a major content update.

The Grey Lady will make its selected NYT Now content available for free in conjunction with National News Engagement Day. Users will be able to read an unlimited number of articles through the app fro 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, Oct. 7 through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, Oct. 13.

New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet said the paper hopes "that allowing unrestricted access to NYT Now helps raise awareness of the important role of journalism, especially during such a turbulent time across the globe."

A NYT Now subscription normally costs $8 per month.

NYTNow version 1.0.7 is available now as a free, 22.1-megabyte download from the App Store.

Also updated on Monday was popular security tool 1Password, which now supports the screen resolutions of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

1Password 5.1 also offers improved support for Touch ID and PIN code, and the auto-lock timeout functions across both master password and Touch ID/PIN code. The iOS Keychain function can also be used to store the master password when Touch ID/PIN code is enabled.

The update also adds brand new tags to items, and the ability to enable or disable third-party custom keyboards within the advanced settings.

Angry Birds Star Wars

The second installment of the George Lucas-approved version of Rovio's massively popular Angry Birds franchise has been gifted yet another content update by its publisher. Among the additions are a brand-new chapter that allows players to "join the rebellion and escape the tightening grip of the empire" that is based on the Star Wars series.

Also added are 24 new levels in a new Rebels Episode, 12 new Rebels characters, and 16 new "master your destiny" levels. The latter are "choose your own adventure"-style levels that require players to think carefully about their character choices.

Angry Birds Star Wars version 1.5.3 is available now as a free, 53.8-megabyte download from the App Store.
