To be fair, Google Wallet spy's on everything you do!!!  Pretty much what CurrentC does.   At least it still is using Tokens.  But Google Has your Credit Card Number, Google see's where you shop, what you're buying and how much you spent.  When you buy something using Google Wallet, You're in fact paying Google, and Google in turn pays the Merchant.  Google has set it's self up as the Middle Man!!!  I do have a problem with that.   It's not nearly as bad as CurrectC with the whole Direct access to your bank account and zero fraud protection, or CurrectC App making a grab for your health info stored on your phone, but I'm not a fan of what Google is doing, even though it's all part of it's business model.

At least I have a choice to not use it.  I'm against CurrentC far more.   The more support for NFC, the better for everyone.  Fact is Google in all these years, what's it's been 4 years now built into Android and it's been dying a slow death here in the U.S. with zero promotion from Google!!!  For the few that think NFC came out because of Android, NO!!! It came out before Android and Google just made use of existing tech!!!   Part of Mastcard Pass and whatnot where you would use a Keyfob type thing to pay for things.  That never took off either.   Now I guess I'll e used for Chip & Pen which will be coming Next year.  I think it's LAW, everyone has to move over to it.    Which I'm confused on.  I hear these company's will only support CurrectC or Cash!   How would they get away with not having NFC or supporting Chip & Pen?

I'd go a step further and say I wouldn't be surprised if the financial institutions insisted on the other platforms develop a payment system as secure as Apple's especially since it seems like retailers are getting hacked daily.

That would probably give the companies in contract with CurrentC an out. If new regulations regarding safety became mandated and CurrentC didn't qualify ... game over ... contract or not.

If anything defines MCX as amateurs, this does. Walmart executives must now be wondering what they've committed to.

Sorry, should of said CurrentC. It's horrible in every which way. And yes, stupid name.

But you cannot kill it. Otherwise, what are BB and MS devices going to use in term of e. payment? LOL. CurentC only customer: Microsoft.

I doubt it was a matter of marketing.   Many of us (most?) have no interest in google watching our everyday financial transactions on top of everything else they watch and analyze.

Did I just hear a collective "gulp" from the CEO of CVS, Walmart, and others who had the best interest of their customers in mind?

Well that's not an issue, Microsoft users have never experienced security so won't be upset. Maybe they can run a special version Norton or Symantec on their own NFC machines, it would be very slow and they'd probably have to wait ages for new downloads of security updates before every purchase but that's all par for the course for a PC user with his new Microsoft Mobile Phone..

I can see that. The savings in fraud with the representational card number per device and the tokenization alone will be extremely beneficial to them even if most other devices still need to use a PIN.

I read some data the other day of the expected savings Wells Fargo is already calculating due to expected ?Pay usage. It was massive. Sorry can't remember where, The Verge or Ars maybe?

Not too late to get that CurrentC Halloween Costume -- be sure to wear something under it, as it is totally transparent! :D

I prefer translucent for myself ... ;) (sorry a poor Yosemite joke there)

I absolutely hate the translucent Safari tab bar in Yosemite ... Scroll up a page (like this forum) and you can't see which tab is selected!

Okay, the Apple-lover who did this, please raise your hand!

Please. We all know Apple users are grandmas and bearded hipsters playing pan flutes.

The MCX merchant contract forbids gulping by their CEOs.

Given CurrentC's business model, their users would have had their emails filled with spam even without a breach.

Yeah, with this model I'm surprised that ANYONE signed up for it.  I've read elsewhere that this is how it works, though I haven't diligently verified.  But if true, all I can guess is that most people using it have no idea how it actually works, or they wouldn't have signed up.

I think it would be fantastic if this pushed people to use cash more often.  It's refreshing to do business in a way where you're not whoring yourself out to commercial interests.  ?pay is nice step forward, in that it potentially (I'll write more on this later) removes the ability for the merchant to capture customer data, but let's be honest, the banks/CC issuers are still gathering all that data and consumers have no clue about where it ends up and how it's used.  Plus, if you present one of those ridiculously invasive "loyalty" cards when you pay, all bets are off and every tidbit of transactional and personal data is sold off to data brokers.

BTW Isn't that just an awful name ... CurrentC... was it supposed to be clever? It makes me think of electricity not money.
It sounds like a vitamin supplement.

MS will probably make WindowsPay and convert $$$ to MS points just to make a killing on conversion rates. Haha.

Can you imagine getting a BSOD on a NFC terminal?

Try changing out a few desk top images some work very well. But you can turn it off of course but if you do it looks way too stark IMHO.
