I don't see him as playing Steve Jobs, especially after playing Sherlock Holmes, Shere Khan, Smaug, Richard III, Julian Assange, and Stephen Hawking, Vincent Van Gogh, and, upcoming, Dr. Strange.
This movie is akin to The Social Network, which was also about a "tech visionary asshole," and also written by Aaron Sorkin. That movie grossed $100M domestically, and $127M foreign. Not a small movie by any means. In other words, just because it's a geek-oriented theme, doesn't mean it can't be relatable to larger non-geek audiences. Sorkin is particularly good at taking niche themes, and producing really good, publicly-accessible dramas around them.
Look at his work:
Beltway politics => The West Wing Sports news business => Sports Night Baseball team management => Moneyball News business => Newsroom Military/law => A Few Good Men
Fassbender is a rising A-list actor, in that he has starred (or played prominent roles) in many high budget, high grossing movies (several X-Men movies, Prometheus, Inglorious Basterds), as well as being nominated for some of his roles. He speaks English and German fluently, and has no problems with an American accent.
He can definitely commit to a role ("He went on a diet of berries, nuts and sardines for his role in Hunger (2008) for which he lost 33 pounds." --IMDB).
I really wanted Bale to fill this role, but I think Fassbender is a great second choice.
Noah Wylie and Ashton Kutcher both look more like Jobs, but in my opinion, do not have the acting chops for a role like this. We don't need a Steve Jobs impersonator, we need someone that has Jobs' gravitas.
Or howbout, you know, we don't make another fucking Jobs movie? It's not like it's going to come anywhere near capturing the essence of the guy. It will be a superficial performance, emphasizing his negatives in order to create the needed drama. The guy hasn't been dead that long.
You might think that the black and female actors suggested to play Steve Jobs are in there for a joke but the real joke is the poll results. Out of over 16,000 votes, Kanye West was the favorite. More than 1100 picked Meryl Streep.
Why is it so important to make ANOTHER movie about jobs? So far none of them have been good...I can only hope the next one is. I would want it to contain his more recent life, not the early life.
This won't be the movie you're looking for. With Sorkin writing the script (he's the one who totally fabricated Zuckerberg's story in "The Social Network"), don't expect it to be reality-based. Also, apparently, the movie will consist of just 3 scenes, all set backstage before important Apple keynotes. It could be somewhat clever, but I expect it to not be based in reality (the scenes will be metaphors for various parts of his life), and full of typical Hollywood emotional manipulation.
For anyone out there who doesn't know the rules of etiquette, never correct someone unless it's necessary... and if necessary, do it in a kind way. It's called publicly calling someone out. The only exception is when you're correcting someone who tried to correct you but were actually wrong in the first place.
The Machinist is a thriller, as noted under "genre" in the link you provided. I love how people who are dumb can say whatever they want without doing research, and people who actually know a thing or two have to do the work the first person should have done to respond to their unnecessary comments. As a result, dumb people are taking over the Internet. Citation: YouTube comments. So my original comment was right. Before you scour the Internet for a random film Bale made as a teenager, I was saying that's his current style. It's funny that I have to cover every little nuance of every little comment to guard against unimportant and bored busy bodies. Word of advice, when talking with people in the real world, don't hyper analyze and be gracious.

He's showcased his acting skills with his famous Developers! moment and is probably kicking a ball around, having retired.

Bale probably didn't want to do it because it would change his percieved acting style. He's always done action movies and thrillers
You're kidding, right? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361862/combined
How about Noah Wyle? Looks the part, pretty good actor.
Not sure if you're kidding but for those who don't know, he already played Jobs: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168122/combined
I’m 100% Wyle doing it again. We know he CAN and he has aged to all aspects of the part.
Has anyone seen The Librarian TV movies?
No.

First Batman now Magneto? What *is* the plot of this movie?

Yes. And the new series starts very soon on TNT.
I heard Jim Jefferies filling in for Adam Corolla on the Adam and Drew Show podcast saying he's in the next one.
