Apple is trying at least. Give them a break. They are not beholden to anyone.

Give them a break from what? I'm glad Apple gives to charity. All I said is it would be nice for them to spread it around a bit. :)

This reminds me of the old saying going back to the days when people were allowed to smoke in public places:

"A non-smoking section in a restaurant is like a non-peeing section in a swimming pool"

    It don't work!

I love how that was overblown. Tim didn't say "DUR I HATE YOU PEOPLES THAT DON'T BELIEVE AL GORE", he said "If ROI is all that matters to you, get out of the stock."

That's not the same thing at all.

Man-caused global warming is a money-making farce. However, that doesn't mean people can't try to make things better in their own way. I don't think we need to be dumping toxic waste into rivers, for example.

That doesn't mean I agree with moonbeams that want to close all coal-fired power plants.

    Interesting.

Previously, I stated that getting third party content creators to opt-in to (RED) donations would be difficult. It appears that Apple has made it happen.

    Impressive.

Curious to see how the Google Play store will handle charitable activities this holiday season.
I suppose eventually Google had to come up in another Apple specific thread. Since you're curious:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.onetoday

And guess what? Google even made that one available for you on the App Store. As Apple users are much wealthier than their Android counterparts there's really no excuse for you and others not to give up a measly $1 a day to help those less blessed.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/one-today/id740270200?mt=8

It's only one of dozens of charitable apps on Google Play

In addition Google often does matching contributions, even doubling your donation, for various causes.
    https://doublethedonation.com/matching-gifts/google-inc
    http://money.cnn.com/2014/11/10/technology/google-ebola-donations/

Yeah, Google does a few good things too.

    Every time.

I'm not angry at all. Even though I would never personally purchase any Apple RED products, because I find the color red to be aesthetically displeasing, especially on tech products, I don't have any issues with Apple donating to RED, if they so please. I just don't agree with some of the overall goals of the One organization, which RED is a part of. I believe that there are better and more effective methods for eliminating poverty and disease.

Why would I be angry? AAPL is at all time record highs, shareholders are happy as pigs in muds, Apple's product lineup is great this year, and I have no reasons to be unhappy with Apple overall. That doesn't mean that I must agree 100% with everything that Apple does.

You want to withhold charity based on nationality? No concept of the global village?

    Really?
I could honestly care less about what happens in Africa when we have so many people dying from AIDS here. Let Africa take care of its own health problems and if they can't so be it.

That statement is so very wrong I don't even know where to start!

Here's a start: Ebola; North Korea; Immigration policies; CO2 emissions/green policies in general (or lack of); Cross border crime; state funded terrorism; government sanctioned espionage; human rights abuses; drug/people smuggling; child abduction; mistreatment of animals...and on and on and on...

All these things and many more affect people in countries close to the offending country, and people in countries all around the world. No country is completely insular from the actions of other countries.

Not to mention the moral imperative of taking action when human lives are directly in danger (provided it does not make the situation worse).

I commented on that at the time, I'm sure that the posts are searchable and still here on this forum, and I happened to agree with Tim Cook in that particular instance.

Everything should not just be about the ROI, because then that could lead to Apple making cheaper, junky products, if they listened to liberals who want Apple to expand into other third world markets, or if they listen to those liberals who constantly want Apple to lower their prices. Apple should always be about making the best devices possible, and they should not compromise much on those devices. So I see it not just about being about climate change. And the overwhelming majority of shareholders were against that proposal by that tiny group. The whole thing was a non issue and it was overblown by a partisan political media.

And I do still believe that Al Gore is a hypocrite and many of those global warming alarmists are ignorant and dishonest scammers with criminal intentions.

It's pretty silly usage too IMO as most readers here aren't members nor probably even regulars and would not know what that means. Notice how often even regular members miss it? I agree it's cute and all but hardly helpful to casual readers.

*Not directed at you Soli, just the usage in general.

It'd be easier if everyone stuck to /s but people like to be creative and subtle. (not saying that's a bad thing)

Marketing and advertising again using AIDS?

    or

I guess after Tim Cook's recent revelation I understand why apple is so much focused on AIDS:))

LOL. That's news to me! Someone's making money off climate change?

Btw, sorry to tell you this, but NRG (one of the largest coal-based utilities in the US) is then surely the biggest moonbeam: http://nyti.ms/11IqFXK ;<img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

(I know you don't have to, and likely won't, but I do wish to tell you -- educate yourself: http://www.nrg.com)

I agree with the Al Gore point.

Sometimes I think the best thing that can happen to the climate 'debate' is for Al Gore to shut up about it already.

They even mentioned something about climate change and how that was some sort of huge danger. Hopefully Apple won't be releasing any climate change colored products anytime soon. What a joke that would be. AIDS, poverty and climate change, what a perfect trio, a liberal wet dream. They're also lobbying for the complete elimination of billions of dollars of debt by poor countries. I say let the chips fall where they may. Bailouts are a bad idea, be they national or international.

Some countries are poor for a reason. Many of them are run by criminals and corruption is rampant. Throwing money at the problem is not going to solve anything longterm, as long as the core remains rotten. I believe that certain countries that are not functioning societies should be colonized or simply taken over and the leaders and authorities replaced with competent people.
