Bags are used for uniforms, lunches, and many women use them for makeup and whatnot.
You really think you need to check your makeup at work? If so, then do it on your own time! How long does it take to check a brown bag with a sandwich? Uniforms???? Who packs their uniforms in a bag for work? C'mon!!

Many women do, yes. And they do it on their own time, retail employees are entitled to lunch time. And on that time, they may want to adjust their makeup, in which case they need to have their makeup with them. In their bag.
Assuming everybody wants to carry a brown bag, instead of their own, is extremely ignorant. They are going to work, not a concentration camp.
Many people do pack their uniform, yes. They may leave their house hours before work, to meet with friends, get lunch, anything. You don't know them. They may also be expecting a life after work, so pack a clothes to change in.
You say "C'mon" but make some of the absolutely stupidest assumptions I've ever heard.

Many employers, specially in retail, issue employees their own personal locker. Where do you think such employees store their purses and small personal items (like prescription drugs, iPods and cigarettes) when they are working out on the floor? If employers don't allow you to carry your purse, handbag or other personal items when working, then they have to supply you with a secure place where to store them when you are working. In which case, they can keep a make-up kit and other personal necessities at work and don't need to bring it to work and take it home everyday. Plus a small make-up kit don't need to be put in a bag that takes more than a few seconds to check.
Lunch boxes are not a problem, they don't require security to go through it, just a quick glance (specially when it's empty after work) will do. You don't need to put your lunch in a backpack that have 4 zippered compartments. If you do, then the time to check that bag should be yours and not the employers.
Most employers require that you clock in already in uniform. Therefore, if you are carrying your uniform into work, you have to get there early so you can change into it before you clock in. If you need to change out of your uniform before leaving work, it's usually on your own time. Therefore, the extra time it takes for security to check your bag shouldn't matter to you. Just be grateful that your employer allowed you to bring your extra clothes to work in the first place and that you had a safe place to store them while you were working. But the time it takes to check your bag may matter to the person behind you, when entering and leaving work. But most employers have a separate line for employees that don't have large bags that needs to checked. (And vast majority of the employees in that line are male. ) Just look at those old footage of auto workers clocking out. All they're carrying is a lunch box.
The bottom line is that if you have to bring to work personal items, that are not required to perform your job, in a bag that takes more that a few seconds to check, then it should be checked on your time, not the employers. If it was on the employers time, then all employees (specially union ones) will make it a point to bring a bag that needs more than few few seconds to be checked because it's better to get paid for standing in a long line while waiting for your bag to be checked, than it is to be working. Even if the bag contains nothing but dirty laundry.

They can keep this bag in their car if so vain they have to keep adjusting the way they look.

SIGH! Not an actual 'brown' bag silly!!! BTW, this is a place of work, not a fashion show. People need to stop treating work space as their personal space.

Uniform.... you mean t-shirt! How hard is it to change in the mall restroom, if having your bags checked is SUCH an inconvenience?!

In a previous life, I spent many years managing retail stores. NEVER have I had ONE person complain about a bag check!! This lawsuit is an absolutely stupid assumption on the employees part. Too many "privileged" thinking the world owes them everything.
Yes the Corporatocracy is in control and I agree with you. This is a gift to them. The real issue is a failure at the leadership level. Most of these employes make less than 10 dollars an hour and Corporations like Apple and Walmart can afford to do what morally right.
What does that even mean? Companies don't owe people jobs, fer Chrissakes.

Again, you keep making assumptions, and it makes you read like an idiot.
For example, assuming all women who wear makeup are vein. A woman might wear makeup to feel secure, maybe even to cover up a deformity. You have absolutely no idea so cannot assume, so please, stop.
Then what bag? If not a brown bag, like you mentioned, how about there actual bag? ............. Duh.
Yes, uniform. Apple stores have toilets, by the way. And, you again miss the point.
I have no interest in what you did in previous years, your argument does not become more valid.
What assumptions are the employees making? The lawsuit mentions no assumptions by employees or Apple. It's just you making those.
You clearly misunderstand why some Apple employees are not happy with this. It's not about them having to do a bag check, or being unpaid for the bag check. It's that there is not a manager available when leaving the store to perform the bag check, so they are stood around waiting for no reason, and they want to be compensated for their wasted time, for something the company requires.
I find that a totally reasonable request. I do not like the lawsuit against Apple, being an Apple shareholder and obsessive, but if I was an Apple store employee, who had just been given a company Apple bag for Christmas (rather ironic), bringing my lunch, headset and lanyard in my bag, and had to wait 5 minutes stood doing nothing for someone to say I can leave, yes, I'd be pretty upset.

how clueless can one be! No real world experience! Go back to the basement
Regarding the assumptions, I have only ever seen Apple Store employees wear their uniforms into the store with a shirt or coat over the Apple shirt (as company policy is that they’re not seen wearing the shirt into or out of the building).
I don’t imagine many people “change” entirely; and as such there’s quite probably a place in back to place personal belongings (namely this overshirt).
Oh, also, are the Apple Store restrooms supposed to be for customers?

The one in Amsterdam has lockers for the employees. And the restrooms are for the employees as well as the customers/visitors. No idea on other stores though. Perhaps that ifo site has info.
