Actually with iPhone 6/6 Plus if you bought the iPhone full price from Apple Store only then the phone is unlocked and you can use any SIM card in any country. I'm from the UAE and I was in the states last month and bought for iPhones 2 6 and 2 plus from the Apple Store (the Plus were AT&T and 6 were Verizon and T Mobile). They're all working fine back home also with 4G/LTE. The guy at the Apple Store told me as long as you buy from Apple with full price it's automatically unlocked and the LTE bands are no longer an issue with 6/6plus.
Apple is late in the U.S. Market by two months. Now; can someone tell me the difference between the the new official "UNLOCKED" model and that of the Verizon and T-Mobile full pay models?
You can't activate the Verizon one on Sprint, and you can't activate the T-Mobile one on Verizon, nor Sprint.
First and foremost most of people commenting are missing that Verizon and Sprint phones are not only GSM and LTE but also CDMA. Yes that's dual and yes Verizon uses SIM cards for CDMA as well.
The SIM card on CDMA phones is solely for the LTE portion of it. Prior to LTE there were no CDMA phones with SIM cards.
That is not quite true anymore (it was long time ago). If you remove SIM card that CDMA also will not work and phone allows only emergency calls. Thus it is not purely for LTE only.

The main differences are that the new SIM-free handsets (models A1586, A1524) also include the Chinese bands: TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A), and TD-LTE (Bands 38, 39, 40, 41) as well as access to CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz).
The unlocked models with the T-Mobile SIM (A1549, A1522) do not support the aforementioned bands.

Yes, but not for reasons you might think.

4G SIM Card
The Verizon Wireless 4G SIM card houses your subscriber profile and information that is needed to authenticate your services on our network. These 4G SIM cards are compatible only with Verizon Wireless-certified 4G LTE devices and are equipped with PIN (Personal Identification Number) and PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) codes to protect against unauthorized use.
Sure. It is the same as in GSM case what thay state for LTE. I have used PUK many times as when I travel I change number for local SIM. In many coutries you do not need to register with any provider and grocery store starter kit with SIM is enough to put into phone and have phone number assigned immadietaly.
Now you still need to enter PUK regardless of LTE or GSM to enable CDMA service or any service on Verizon phone for that matter... that is regardless if PUK is used specifically for LTE or GSM network. I do not take it from reading some web site, but from personal expereince while traveling to different coutries with number Apple mobile devices. Otherwise you will be stuck with local emergency phone number on any of them.

When I talked to Apple they said these new unlocked models are a world phone, they work everywhere. All GSM, CDMA etc. Even China which apparently uses a different LTE than much of the world (apparently its the same one that Sprint uses so many resellers were getting full price Sprint phones to send to China)
I bought my iPhone 6 from Apple for contract on AT&T. Does anyone know if it is technically already "unlocked"? I'm going overseas for a month and just want to pop in a sim card, will it work?
I am travelling to the United States next week and would like to buy an i phone 6 plus unlocked version from the US for using in India. Is there a particular model I should be looking for for getting 4G/LTE coverage in India. (between the models 1522 and 1524)
