Bt protocols are not particularly high fidelity. The Lightning headphones sound like they pass a digital stream which are then converted to a analog by the headphones, a solution that give you far higher quality audio if done properly.
Not so -
CSR gives away aptX for free, and AAC as the bluetooth codec is very goo as well. They're easily CD quality or better. But Apple products have nothing to do with aptX, and AAC has a licensing cost as a codec in the BT stack. Most don't want to pay the cost, so the cast majority of products don't sound as good as the technology will allow.
