What make them think this is an Apple initiative? Probably just another Google Street View wannabe.

I think you are confusing 'initiative' with 'innovate' in your attempted Apple put down.

The Apple Car product is unrelated to this effort. On that car front I'm going to come up with a name for Apple's car:

    ? 1

I'm voting for "maps", although they may be going skiing on Pluto...

By the way, what's wrong with, "?Cart"?

You can imagine street view type detail integrated into flyover. Right now flyover works great as a flyover, but you can zoom down to street level. What if this data was seamlessly integrated into one perfect 3d model?

Since the government has put restrictions on flying drones Apple has had to resort to using mini-vans for street mapping. Drones would have been much more efficient and faster to get the street views that they are looking for.

Does anyone really believe that Apple would be driving multiple Dodge mini-vans for a vehicle development project based on their history of product secrecy? If they are in the development of a vehicle it's most likely 2-3 years out. Self driving and battery technologies need to improve and the legacy auto companies are lobbying against the newcomers. How do you sell an Apple Car? The current Apple stores aren't really designed to be automobile showrooms.

Why was the Apple license tag blurred out, but not the POV next to it in the top photo? Apparently not a privacy issue or they both would have been obscured despite being unattended in a public area.

Secondly, I'm amazed Jason I think you said his name was, didn't take some detailed shots of the antenna array. And the crew when they returned. Maybe California has some unusual privacy laws even in public areas due to the number of deep-pockets Hollywood notables?

The angle is exactly like what NavTeq uses except they only have one. I think it is to scan 3D of tall buildings. They are rotating so they can see everything.

On a side note I can see that those plates were registered in December of 2014 (expires DEC 2015 - yellow color)

Also I can see it was likely purchased in Houston MAC HAIK DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP

    (281) 447-9500 from the license plate frame and the dealer badge under the rear window.

It is a bit puzzling why they would keep the plate frame from Houston when they installed the CA plates which usually takes a few weeks to receive in the mail.

Apple should've pulled a Steve Jobs stunt and leased a new mini-van every 90 days. At least in California they aren't required to put license plates on new cars during that grace period, thus, perpetually avoiding being identified as the lease holder. But, the jig is up.
