    Re: London Underground

Hate to burst your bubble, but they rely on your credit card number to know what station you get off from to bill you. The whole point of tokenization prevents them from tracking where you get on & off.

I recently travelled to London and Apple Pay (with a U.S. car) works everywhere EXCEPT the underground.

Don't hold your breath, I know an exec at one of the big 5 banks and they want to promote their own solution, so for now they will fight it as much as they can. I expect that they will cave in the end though.

So they will likely push other solutions to android/WP, with the same conditions, else they will restrict themselves from having a product for 80% of worldwide smartphone owners. They simply cannot afford to lose 80% of market (in number of customers, not in money spent, of course).

Well, the same conditions are improbable (tight OS, hardware integration) on the Android platform and there's no point in allowing it there if the Platform can be hacked... Though, a few big players like Samsung may eventually make a custom implementation/kludge on their new hardware. So, there you are...

How do you pay for your travel cards using NFC?

Is the NFC element on the iPhone limited to Apple's usage only? I wonder if they will open it up to third party apps like TouchId. We could then load the Oyster Card onto the Passbook app and use the iPhone to tap in and out of tube rides.

Either that, or the Oyster Card somehow is made compatible with Apple Pay.

I can use my S5 (work phone) for nfc payments or i can use my contact less visa card for quick payments.
I will have to wait a while before I upgrade my iPhone maybe next month when I get my bonus :D

It still amazes me that people spout off this stupid 80% market share number.  Google has stated that the GW will not work on anything that doesn't have at least KitKat loaded.  This cuts out the majority of the Android phones right there.

I realize that Apple also only has a small share of people that own the 6/6 plus that can use Apple Pay as of yet, but that number will go up over 100 - 150 million more this year, not to mention the people that have a 5/5s that purchase an Apple Watch.  There could conceivably be 300 million people or more by the end of this year that can use Apple Pay.

You could be right, however, we also know the biggest spenders are users of Iphones not androids so 80% of users who do not use CC like the other 20%. Remember CC company make money on the total of the transactions not the number of transaction. So would you want 3% of the 20% of the people who spend 80% of the total transactions or do you want 3% of the 80% who only spend 20% of the total. I can guaranty you they are more interested in the 20% of the people spending most of the money.

With that said, VISA most likely will not need to extend tokenization down to Android phones due to the way Google does things see the below link. Google is the man in the middle and VISA token system would remove google as the man in the middle.

I expect all that would be necessary is not an app per se, but simply a compatible system: so your transit "card" would reside in Passbook and be an alternate "payment" option available for the correct terminal, right there with credit cards. That's existing now, I have multiple "cards" loaded into Passbook for ApplePay at the moment, adding a transit card would be similar. In and out systems might be more of a challenge than  entrance fee only systems (NYC, Phila.) as what with tokenization I'm not sure how they'd handle the continuity issue, but I guess they could track the pseudo card ID...

I’ll believe it when I see it.

    Still no iTunes Radio.

Does the Underground accept NFC cards? If so it's likely going to happen, even US transit systems setting up NFC (Philadelphia, don't specifically about D.C. that has NFC up and running) have stated they're working towards ApplePay.

Yup. It has accepted NFC for some time. It's how I've been paying for my travel cards when I've been up in the big smoke

iTunes Radio is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

Let's hope so, as 2013-2015 were nothing but a world of Nay for iTunes radio.
