What motivates someone to spread toxic negativity like this about something you have no real knowledge about? Maybe if you lived in Paducah, yes, but you live in the most self-absorbed hive on Earth. So better not to talk loose about the prospects of this American institution, lest you contribute to its demise.

    Edit: amended for tone.

I do live in NYC, but all of us are not self absorbed, and take my mom to JC Penney all the time. Not once have I been compelled, nor tempted to buy anything there. They need an entire image overhaul, that in itself is not impossible, but it's not going to happen overnight.

Best t-shirts anywhere, with a pocket, like the Goddess of Vestments intended.

So much cluelessness in this thread.

Nasty Gal is a very successful brand. Their founder is one of the most successful self-made CEOs in America. They are a Big Deal in couture.

But hey, if your wardrobe comes from Sears, maybe that%u2019s just not on your radar.

Now if you told me Ron Johnson was seen at Madonna's after Oscar's party it would have all made sense...

    Ya, I went there...  ;)

AI commenters -- as tech nerds -- as a group don't know anything about fashion. Trust me, I live in Mountain View, CA and see plenty of high-tech people standing on the Caltrain platform. Their attire? Appalling. Slap on a halfway decent pair of shoes and jacket and you look better than 99% of other Caltrain riders.

It is a bit far stretched to think that AI commenters would recognize the success of the Nasty Gal brand, which is a recent development.

He lost me at "couture"  I was about to get on him for misspelling culture before I looked it up.  ;)

I seriously question how much of the success of the Apple Stores was due to him. I think he did well when he had a good set of managers.

That's always been my though as I assumed he simply implememneted Steve's vision but I got a flaming on AI explaing Ron disagreed with Steve's concept and won out. I never bothered to see if this was true or not since I don't lose sleep over Ron Johnson's history or future for that matter.

... and yet you take the time to comment about it.

Steve was told by Ron that he (Steve) had designed the store completely wrong. Steve agreed, and from that time forward he left it up to Ron to make it right. Obviously, Ron was right.
