    Accidents happen. Let's say a crane falls over and two people die at the site. That could throw the schedule off. For a large project like this, a cautious company like Apple would have contingency plans.

     

    Not to long ago there was a fire at a new condominium complex in San Francisco which through off the schedule by about 18 months.

     

    Stuff like that.

     

    Apple cannot control everything that happens during the Campus 2 construction.

     

    Note that in my original response, I also mentioned other reasons for Apple in obtaining this lease, including consolidating a bunch of smaller office complexes.

     

    There isn't just one single reason for Apple to acquire real estate. There are numerous factors, some of which are primary, others are secondary. Apple clearly listed many of these for Campus 2 so it would figure that Apple quantified the reasons behind the acquisition of the Main Street campus, even if they didn't publicly published them.

    The problem is, it's becoming impossible to find houses in a reasonable price to leave anywhere in the bay area, especially in Cupertino...
