I haven't had any crashes, and it's good to see that iPhoto still works as migration between apps has been problematic for me regarding organization.

For those with issues or complaints about the Photos app, voice your concerns by emailing Apple and letting them know what you want changed. They might not change things, but the age old saying applies here as well - The Squeaky Wheel Gets The Grease. I know I'll be writing them an email.

Don't delete iPhoto. Don't migrate to Photos. Photos is a joke. No "Events", no geotagging, and reportedly no photo sharing on AppleTV unless you synch using iCloud. If you have very many photos iCloud will get pretty expensive.  This is a dumbing down of iPhoto is not for serious photo archiving.  Without "Events" it is very difficult to have any reasonable organization of an iPhoto library.

Its very basic but fast, really fast! against the Aperture with the same library size on 80Gb (about 10 000 pictures).

Used Aperture for 3 years i think, but in first hand Photos is very basic against Aperture but then again.. wow! so fast! Photos is :-)

With photos, it feels like the same thing as with the new FCPX (10) against FCP7, same way people talked that FCPX is a bad update and so basic, but now there are tons of PRO-plugins but also native-tools in every new update to FCPX.

i hope the same evolution vill bring Photos in the same way FCPX to its PRO-tools by time :-)
    Again... Photos is fast! :-)

If you have Aperture from before and it's not working I would report that. Apple said it would. Actually I believe they said that about iPhoto also

I found that "events" are still available in Photos... Go to "View" and "show sidebar", you'll find your events there however, they are harder to get to! They also took away the ability to show iPhoto slideshows on Apple TV you now must use Photos for home-sharing to Apple TV. I am all for change if it is in a positive direction but this seems like backwards progress. I also do not like the white background in Photos. It washes out the photos.

Apple was great, now it Sucks!!!!  Thats right.. with a Capital S!

First no sms texting to non-iOS devices from iPhone or iPad, then they completely screw up OS X with Yosemite when it was working great with Mavericks..

Then they really stink it up by ruining their Photo App..  iPhoto was perfect for slide shows, and overall basic photo viewing and editing..  Apple should have left well-enough alone.  Then they screw up everyones day by not replacing the functionality in iPhone instead of building on what was already a solid app, they tried to re-invent the wheel and they failed big time..  I really hope the iWatch falls flat on its face and apple starts to lose market share to Samsung and Google.  I already sold 25,000 shares of Apple and shifted to Samsung and Google..  they are where the future is at.  Whoever took over Apple after Steve passed is extremely foolish and clearly in over their head.  These new developers are useless, they must be selling out to somebody.  I really hope Microsoft kicks their ass, after losing market share to google and Samsung this coming year.   There may still be a chance if they stop outsourcing their code development offshore and bring back all the features they took away.

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail.

    Still working perfectly for me.

And I will keep it running as long as possible too.

Photos is iPhoto + (a small + at that), but miles behind what Aperture offered.

I think this is the root of the problem for me – for features to return, that means they have to leave first. For someone who wants to use Apple products (particularly iWork) in a professional setting, I need reliability. I don't like the idea that a Pages document I formatted one week may suddenly lose that formatting when I update or that a Keynote presentation I made a few years ago may suddenly no longer work with the latest version.

Apple makes great products, but when features appear and disappear, seemingly at random, it makes it hard to rely upon those products in any sort of "mission critical" setting.

Aperture works fine with 10.10.3.  You have something else wrong with your Mac, or Aperture is not up to date.  You can still download it from the App Store under your Purchases, along with iPhoto.

Even though iPhoto and Aperture no longer appear in the App Store as a purchasable item, they remain on your Purchases list if you previously bought / downloaded them. I tried deleting iPhoto from my Mac and re-adding it from there, and it still downloads OK, just no longer runs on 10.10.3.

Also, my copy of Aperture remains operational on 10.10.3.

    Cheers

Photos app is totally not useful for pro users. It took from me along time to organize 25000 photos in aperture and it is not easy to familiarize myself with a new pro software. It is really difficult to rely on apple softwares. They are abandoning the pro users with every update. Their main concern is to make a good experience for iOS users. For this reason they made the photos app looks like the one on iOS devices.

Can anyone recommend a good pro software without subscription model?

Adobe Lightroom is still available as retail product, to my knowledge.

But... Adobe is also offering "Photography" plan that gives Lightroom and Photoshop for AU$9.99/month here in Australia/NZ. I had a chat with their rep and she confirmed for me that both Photoshop and Lightroom can be installed on desktop and laptop, plus there is mobile Lightroom for iOS and Android. I'm warming up to this idea. I mean, AU$5 a month per computer... that's one posh coffee a month (and I don't even drink coffee). I'll probably postpone my decision until I get new camera (my current cameras work with older Lightroom I already have), but it does look quite... inviting.

Not many people want their personal documents or photos in the cloud on some server.  No one wants to rely on an internet connection to see their files.  No one wants to pay Apple's ridiculous prices for monthly cloud storage when it can be free on their local devices.  It is a stupid move.  Most people have a photo library that far exceeds Apple's free storage of 5GB.  No one has the time to upload hundreds of GBs of data, wasting bandwidth.  But I guess teenagers think the cloud is cool when they have parents to pay for everything.

Photos for OS X is missing one key feature.  You can no longer drag and drop photos from an SD card accessed in Photos into an album.  Apparently, Apple believes everyone takes pictures with their iPhones and uploads to the cloud, so they decided to remove drag and drop from Photos for OS X.  And they call that photo management?  It is no surprise that Apple's latest re-write of a program comes with features stripped out of it.  Final Cut X, iWork apps, iMovie, etc. all got the butchering treatment of features removed that people used.  Now we have Photos for OS X, with its annoyingly bright white interface.

Apple should realize that real photographers use a DSLR camera, not an iPhone.  When you insert your SD card, Photos for OS X reads it and displays the photos, just like iPhoto.  When you select all the photos, you cannot drag and drop them to your album of choice.  Clicking on a photo expecting to drag the selected group only de-selects the photo you are hovering over.  So now you have to import them into the unknown, find them in Last Imported, select them from that location, and then you can drag them to an album.  That is supposed to be easier?  If you want to drag and drop the photos from the SD card into an album, now you have to back out of Photos for OS X and go back to the Finder, open the SD card from the Finder, and drag the photos to an album.  Totally stupid for Apple to remove drag and drop to an album directly from an SD card, where most photos originate...not the damn cloud and an iPhone.  I already sent feedback to Apple hoping they restore this feature.

Maybe Photos for OS X will grow into a useful app, after enough people give feedback to restore obvious features.  Not able to view photos on an AppleTV from the Photos app???  That was one of the main advertised features of AppleTV!  However, I have not messed around with that because iTunes is still set for viewing and sharing photos via iPhoto on my Mac.  Maybe people need to check that setting in iTunes first.  I deleted the Photos Library, deleted the dock icon, and will continue using iPhoto because it does what I need it to do.  Photos makes things harder to do with too many steps.

    Hello
    APERTURE: FOR NOW PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I was very disappointed about Apple procedure for updating they photo app.
I had a library of about 10.000 photos, edited and stored in aperture library. The damned updating to Photo, converted the library in a differente format and blocked the launch of Aperture.
Obviously I had a library backup.
I restored it and I found a way to launch the Aperture app:
Go to application folder, click right on Aperture and choose "Show Package Contents" than navigate to: Contents/MacOs. Click on Aperture. A terminal procedure will launch Aperture perfectly working". Don't close the terminal window, but reduce it to icon. When you have finished to use aperture, close it normally and don't forget to kill the process in the terminal window.
I made a link to this file on my application folder to shorten the launch
Obviously there are some risk to use the app in this way.
I am going to replace it with Lightroom or Capture One, but for now I have my library out of trouble...
I hope this can help somebody

What is with this x.0 beta crap Apple has been putting out lately?

Never crashed once for me and I threw a 500 GIG Aperture Library at it. I suggest you check your Mac's directories and catalogs. Run Disk Warrior ASAP.

What is this, Windows?  How crappy is Mac OS if you need third party software to fix issues?

I had no issues with my gigantic photo library, it was the sharing feature I was giving a once over...  Reading, I guess, isn't something you're good at...

But no, of course it couldn't be your fault, your machine, or configuration, it has to be Apple's fault and their "crap" software. Please, switch to another operating system if you think what they develop is such garbage.

Once that attitude ("everything Apple does is magic and perfect") becomes the culture, only ideas deemed fit for mass market by a couple people at Apple will be heard or cared about... professionals are no longer the mass market to Apple so expect more and more of those features to be drained away in favor of consumer features or features that only develop revenue.

It's funny that people like the apologists and fanboys are part of the reason I left Windows and now they are part of the reason I'm leaving Mac OS.

Its all very Clever Merchandising and "go to Market Strategy" they invest alot in redesigning the Mac performance so it attracts the masses, then they go cheap on their development, low cost of effort, retrograde look, feel, and capabilities which actualy makes it more portable (and disposable). Thats how they make up the difference. Then just before sales volume peaks, they make the cut over to the crappier looking UI and low grade apps. They plan it all out in the US but the buy manufactured code development in China and India, so there you have it not only are they screwing the people they are screwing the US. Apple is now the same caliber of company as microsoft.
