Tim Cook offers keynote invite, Cupertino lunch in latest Charitybuzz auction

Charitybuzz today announced that for the third year in a row, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook is auctioning off some of his time in order to benefit the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights, which backs human rights causes around the globe.

As with past auctions, Cook is offering the winning bidder a lunch with him at Apple's Cupertino headquarters. Added this year however are two VIP passes for an upcoming Apple keynote -- typically, access to the company's keynotes is limited to press and Apple staff, and in the case of WWDC, developers.

Charitzbuzz warns that while events will be scheduled at the earliest possible date(s) acceptable to both parties, it may take up to a year. And while the cost of the lunch is covered, the winner is expected to pay for their own travel and accomodation expenses.

The auction begins today and ends at 3:04 p.m. Eastern on May 6. So far 12 bids have already been entered, bringing the price up to $37,500. That's below Charitybuzz's estimated value of $100,000.

If bidding follows past trends however, it will likely exceed that target. Last year's auction took in over $330,000, despite having an identical estimate.

The first keynote available to attend should be on June 8 at WWDC 2015. There the company is expected to reveal iOS 9 and OS X 10.11, as well as an overhauled Apple TV, and possibly new music and TV streaming services.

Thank God it is not another coffee auction. He totally ruined my search engine ranking last year.

OMG I wish Tim Cook would stop cramming his lunches down our throats and focus on fixing bugs and making insanely great products.

Thanks for the insight. I wasn't aware he was that directly involved in all aspects of product creation. Perhaps Apple could save money and get rid of all those pesky engineers, programmers and designers since Tim does all.

I took it seriously too! I was about to post "where's the down vote button when you need it"!
