With the updated AppleInsider iOS app, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners can get the day's freshest Apple news delivered in screen resolutions native to their handset, while Apple Watch owners will be granted quick access to headlines when the device launches next week.

The official AppleInsider app now displays in the native resolution of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Today's free update comes after AppleInsider received numerous requests to add native resolution support for Apple's newest big-screen iPhone models.

The new support means readers won't see a scaled-up version of the AppleInsider app. Zoomed-in apps are usually spotted by enlarged top bar content. For example, in the previous build, the cellular signal meter, clock, battery life indicator and other iconography at the top of an iPhone 6's display would show up a bit larger than viewing those same assets from the home screen. That's gone with our new app version.

Next week, early Apple Watch adopters will also be able to access bite-sized chunks of the biggest Apple news and rumors, as AppleInsider's app will offer full Apple Watch support from day one. Created by our good friends at digital design firm Crafted, AppleInsider for Apple Watch comes with a streamlined interface that offers at-a-glance access to the stories you care about most.

AppleInsider's official app includes support for the Apple Watch.

AppleInsider also comes with support for Handoff. When browsing the latest stories on the Apple Watch, users can quickly switch to their iPhone for a more comfortable sustained reading experience. Handoff also works between iPhone and iPad.

The new version also brings 64-bit support to take advantage of Apple's latest A-series SoCs, translating to more efficient code execution.

Version 2.1 includes the same great features introduced in previous app iterations, like control over article font size and weight, a much requested addition. Other past improvements include push notifications, home page article timestamps and snappier image loading times.

Readers can subscribe to AppleInsider Plus for an ad-free experience and the ability to save your favorite articles to Instapaper and Pocket. As always, non-subscribers can continue to enjoy complete AppleInsider news coverage, intriguing features and poignant opinion pieces completely free within the app. Of course, the same content is available through our traditional websites, accessible from your favorite desktop and mobile Web browsers.

Readers can also follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, through our Newsletter and via RSS.

AppleInsider version 2.1 is a free 21-megabyte download from the iOS App Store.

That's embarrassing. I've never used the AI app (apps that just show a webpage are technically against the app store rules, but everyone does it), but I would have thought an Apple focused site would have supported the iPhone 6 in less than 6 months, especially when resolution independent tools came out last June. Makes me wonder if you actually wrote any code, or were you waiting for your third party cookie cutter app making tools to get updated first?

It does seem rather odd that so many apps are still so slow to update to the new resolution standards given it is April and the phones released in September not even pandering to the fact that having apps in the AppStore often means using the betas for earlier access than the final product.

Patiently waited for the forums to finally be updated with native resolution. I resorted to using the website about a week ago. Thanks for getting this in.

The speed of updating the app has been discussed in full last time. What I don't understand is why the ads still show up in the app after you have paid for the subscription.

That shouldn't be happening, as long as you are logged into the same iCloud account on all of your devices.

The mobile site is pretty nice and has always rendered at "native" resolution. Plus I like to keep my iPhone storage free for app apps and video/music content, not apps that are web portals. To each his own.

I like that we now have native resolution for the iPhone 6 and 6+. I finally updated from an old version I was using.

I too would like landscape mode and the ability to remove ads for a fee for those who don't like subscriptions.

Yes, I use the website through Safari right now for that reason. Much easier to read in landscape.

Looking forward to the ?Watch app ... but it will have to have a lot of predictive responses ... I can see it now: "Go away troll", "I wonder what Benjamin Frost would say", "Blocked", "Apple is doomed", "You're an idiot". Sometimes this site is taxing. ;-)

My first reaction was that I am using the same account but during the millisecond it took me to hit the reply button here I think I need to check that first. Thanks!

i see AI apparently deleted the first comment on this story, which said it was embarrassing for an apple site to take so long to offer native support on an apple device.

why delete the comment? it's a fair crit.

There was some, uh, rumor article a couple of weeks back that I commented was complete crap. My comment was thoroughly deleted. I was actually surprised. I'm not anymore.

The commenter said they had never even tried our app, yet they felt compelled to log in and complain. It was not a valuable comment. Why should we host comments that go out of their way to disparage our site?

Trying your app was not necessary to know that it was poorly made. That determination can be made solely based on the lack of iPhone 6 support as of two days ago. Truth hurts.

Hmm, used the same account. An older screengrab:
