Nokia probably figured if Apple was willing to pay 3.2B for Beats, maybe they'll pay the same for HERE. :)

Personally, Maps has been fine for me. Yeah, transit would be nice. But I'm sure that's not too far off. I do think 3.2 billion could be better off spent doing something like Google Street View. Maybe POI-views. Or captures with drones, or whatever those white van driving around major cities were.

I read the Bloomberg release and it doesn't say anything remotely resembling the headline of this article. If you read the Bloomberg release, it is crystal clear that all that's going on is Nokia is trolling trying to drum up interest in their failed maps asset so they can sell it to some unsuspecting foolish company. They put out out a release that actually said they thought company a,b,c,d,e, etc. might be interested and could incorporate it into their own mapping programs. Neither Apple nor annoys the other companies mentioned have any role other than being mentioned. Nice attempt at using trolling to leverage almost non-existent interesting this Nokia asset. What annoys me is the complete lack of accuracy in this website and just about every other tech website that covers Apple. It's a garbage article that doesn't even accurately report what Bloomberg said. let alone accurately discuss what Nokia is trying to pull off. Nokia's PR/Corporate Info guys are laughing their rears off thinking they've gotten a sales team and promotion going at absolutely no cost to them and all they had to do was mention Apple and a few other prominent tech companies to get the media to whip themselves into a frenzy.

Hi, I'm from Finland and I try to only use Apple Maps. Sometimes it feels like it just doesn't understand what I'm trying to feed it. So, I tried the Nokia Here Maps and slapped in some addresses like this:

    address/postcode/city/country
    address, postcode, city, country

(why? because keyboard shortcuts that's why)

And both of them got the right results, without Here Maps getting it's panties in a knot.

Unfortunately, Apple Maps has keyboard shortcuts disabled so I didn't bother typing them in - however, from prior experience I know that both the OS X & iOS Maps have issues with user input. If it's not exactly what they want, it'll fail.

I think Apple should grab Here Maps - and then they could see what happens. I'm sure Apple Maps is an amazing experience for the people in the U.S. but over here it gives a success most of the time - then when it doesn't, that time that it didn't come up with the goods is the time you remember. Not the successes, but the failures.

The app does it automatically for the places you look at most often. Problem is it's random :/

I respect your view, but what you speak of is not the focus of my comment. I am sure you are correct about what works best for you, but on an economic basis the facts are clear - this asset has not delivered for Nokia and thy are trying to get out. Please read my comment again and focus on what I am saying about the article and what is really going on here.

Someone has been asleep at the switch at Nokia HERE to have a 15 mo. gap with their iOS maps app, because even prior to that the old version had MAJOR issues.

Kudos though for them bringing it back -- seems much improved over the old version, now just merge in the old Trapster features which also used to use HERE maps, and it will be great. ;)
