Ya, this is Wal-Marts Baby and they'll hold out as long as they can.   They really hate the credit card fee's.  Maybe if they bumped their prices up a smidgen it wouldn't matter!!!   Still, I think of the people that shop there all the time.  Are these the people that would ever even use CurrectC?   I'm trying to picture a everyday Wal-Mart shopping taking pictures of QR codes and scanning QR codes.   I don't  even think Apple Pay if supported would be used a whole lot?!?!?   I'm thinking checks and Welfare Debit cards.  Maybe I'm wrong?!?!?

I have no idea of who Walmart is targeting with CurrentC, but whether that demographic are price sensitive or not, all consumers appreciate "frictionless" transactions. That was Apple's "high order bit" (to borrow a Steve Jobism) with ApplePay. The method of payment that people want to use wins, period. And Apple is going for that. CurrentC seems to be designed for reasons that benefit the retailer, rather than the consumer. Sort of like the aborted "DIVX" disc rental format that was supposed to compete with the DVD rental model by giving away one-time-use-or-pay-to-unlock encrypted, disposable discs. It was an awful idea dreamed up by lawyers. I say, let CurrentC fail in the market place. It's the only way Walmart and other MCX members will get the message.

I don't get this. I was in Lowes  recently, and they had upgraded their terminals with chip readers. When I tried to pay with my chipped card I found out it was disabled and I had to swipe. Shouldn't that situation be reversed? I sort of understand why they refuse Apple Pay (even if I think their resistance is doomed to failure and make an effort to patronize their Apple Pay accepting competitors), but what possible motive do they have for refusing smart cards?

It's possible we are reading too much into why they have the pay terminals installed. It might be a "ready for the future" move. But if Target cared about security, they'd enable those terminals now instead of waiting for...not sure what.

We live in a small town, and our only 2 options are a Wal-Mart and an HEB.  We buy from both stores, depending on what the item is.  I would love to use my iPhone 6 plus and Apple Pay there.  In looking at who does shop at Wal-Mart - Wal-Mart is smoking some serious stuff if they think that those customers are going to whip out a smartphone, open an app, and scan a QR code to pay, much less go on-line to register their bank accounts and trust MCX with their information.  At least at our store, that is NEVER going to happen.
