I think you may be misreading me. I must not be expressing myself very well. I like both TJ's and Target. I think they're both imperfect. Target's mobile strategy isn't well thought out at all.
I also think they have different values when it comes to employees. TJ employees seem happier, are permitted to think for themselves, and knew what apple pay was and that it would be turned on in a week when the new terminals were installed.
The target employee seems discouraged from thinking for themselves, and pushes whatever the corp line is on Red Card, Red Perks, Cartwheel or whatever else it is this week.
But I do like shopping at both and don't think i'm giving one a pass and one not.
I can't speak to how "happy" the employees are. But some companies are turning on terminals one at a time, while others want to get the entire company running this at once. I can't argue that either way is better, because only they know their situation, and so only they can decide.
I do think some people are getting their heads twisted around for nothing. When a new technology comes out, it takes time for things to settle down. I don't know how many people here remember, or were even around when the big thing about Apple's lacking copy/paste for three whole years after the iPhone came out was a major issue. But that's long gone.
And these issues over Apple Pay, and other systems, will get taken care of in the next couple of years, and people will forget the teething problems we're going through now.
Companies think about their own needs. If those needs align well with those of their customers, then great, if not, they will suffer for that. The smart leaderships will quickly see their errors and fix them. Others will not. But it does take some time. We do need to have some patience.
