Apple has transcended making money... IMHO.... Or has shown that there are things more important than counting how much money you make.

Fortune needs to re-tool their list... To truly show Apple's value in the market.

i agree, this is FUD nonsense. sometimes i dont think some AI writers actually know that much about apple and are shared writing resources from other web properties.

The BS is from Fortune,  not AI. AI was just parroting BS to use as clickbait, which apparently is nowhere near as bad :-P

if they re-wrote it, then the BS lies w/ AI.

Speak for yourself ;-) I can barely afford Apple Products...

apple's gear isnt really that expensive anymore.

iphone: $0 (subsidized, which is/has been common for US consumers)
    ipod: $50
    ipad: $329
    mac: $499
    mabook: $899

...most of which are industry-leading products. the MP is cheaper than a comparable Dell workstation. the apple tax is a myth these days.

what nonsense. most US consumers get phones every two-years, when theyre contracts are eligible for replacements. few people in their right mind would need to get a new ipad every 2 years, and i dont think that behavior has changed since ipad's introduction.

just like laptops. they last a while.

I have two but rarely use them. It is sort of an extra in-between non-essential device, whereas a phone and a computer are considered essentials in a modern society. When you suggest that the long life cycle is affecting sales because people don't upgrade as often, that only supports the theory that iPads are not that important. There is really no reason to upgrade an iPhone every year either but more people do it because iPhones are more important to them.

    1) we have two ipads and use them daily, repeatedly.

    2) after work, i hardly ever touch a desktop or laptop at home. the notion of casually reading on them is dreadful. when working w/ recipes in the kitchen, i grab my ipad. when reading my sites on the sofa, i grab my ipad. if i need to look something up (ex, IMDB) i grab my ipad. when i want to stream some content at bedtime, i grab my ipad.

    3) there is no logical connection between longer upgrade cycle and your theory that ipads arent "important". it's a tool, just like any other. is a hammer important? yep. do you upgrade your hammer often? nope. there ya go.

    4) normal people do not upgrade iphones annually. us techies and phone nerds do, but we dont represent the vast, vast majority of normal consumers.

Tell that to [@]sog35[/@], and while iPads do last a while there's still market share Apple can claim, and hasn't. Switchers have driven iPhone sales through the roof. Why haven't they done the same for the iPad?

Because regular consumers are okay with cheap POS android tablets just for browsing, email and youtube video or some children's games. That's when they settle with $99 POS android tablet. Conscious people know iPad is the best tablet and buy one, but the problem is the damn iPad is built so well and lasts long. One would not replace it at least 3-4 years later. My iPad Air sees no sign of slowness and I won't plan to replace it until Air 4. Yup 2 more years.

    FROM APPLE INSIDER ARTICLE
"Despite the company's success, Apple was still said to be facing its share of problems, such as declining iPad sales, rivalry from Chinese smartphone makers, and general competition from Android devices. While Apple is often the biggest individual smartphone maker in global markets, Android phones currently enjoy greater success as a platform."

iPad sales are down because people are buying 6+ instead of iPads.  That is NOT a problem. A single sale of a 6+ generates more revenue, gross margin, and profits than an single iPad unit.  This is anything but a problem.  Its called customer choosing to purchase the more expensive product.

Rivalry from Chinese smartphone makers?  Name me a single Chinese phone maker that is stealing sales from Apple?  NONE.  No one is buying a POS Xiaomi instead of an iPhone.  They buy Xiaomi because they can't afford Apple.

And how the fuk is Android enjoying greater success as a platform?  Apple has 90% of the industry profits.  How the fuk is Android enjoying greater success with only 10% of the profits and every single Android maker with the exception of Samsung is losing money?

Yes, exactly right, Apple have never worried about cannibalizing their own products. It is this ability to see the future and not trying to maintain a past that has resulted in Apple being #1 in everything that matters, while those that protect their legacies slide into obscurity.

Fortune should rank by net profits. Who cares about revenues in low margin businesses?

When you look at Apple's CY 2014 instead of their FY 2014 they already surpassed Chevron and Berkshire.

So that wasn't a very difficult prediction to make. ;)

"In fact, over 90% Apple device owners don't know what Fortune ranking is."

Right, and 66.2 % of statistics are wrong ... ;-)
