    I'd bet that Aperture makes use of some part of iTunes, so iTunes can't be updated until Aperture lets go of it. I recently experienced a similar issue trying to update Safari while iTunes was open, probably because iTunes uses Safari's rendering engine, but I got no warning messages. Safari would just silently fail to update and reappear on the App Store updates list. After I quit iTunes, it updated without a problem.
