There wasn't really much wrong with his comment. What you feel is right is not necessarily so. The deal has been inked between Apple and the artists' representatives. If they didn't like it, why sign?
1) Everything was wrong with his statement. The reason content owners wanted per stream revenue had absolutely nothing to do with some bizarre "Apple are rich" rationalization. Taylor and others have left other streaming music because they weren't paying enough to make it worth while. The content owners have that right but not all are in a position to negotiate.
2) Getting Taylor and others on board is definitely more important to Apple than those artists needing the paltry revenue from an unproven streaming music service. Apple had no hand here which is why you shouldn't be surprised that they caved. The same happened with Apple TV in late 2006 and is probably happening today with the next Apple TV.
3) Regarding your use of "like it". It's what commonly referred to a the lesser of two evils.
