Amazon Prime Day kicks off with $49 Kindle, $79 Kindle Fire HD 7, $24 Fire TV Stick
As a part of Prime Day, an attempt to spur Black Friday-level sales from Prime subscribers, Amazon on Wednesday discounted a number of electronics, including several Kindle readers and Kindle Fire touchscreen tablets.

The basic Kindle for instance has been discounted from $79 to $49. There aren't any specials on the more advanced Paperwhite and Voyage models -- which have features like front lighting and higher resolutions -- but the company is also offering discounts on its Kindle Unlimited reading and audiobook service. A six-month subscription is 25 percent off, or $44.96, while a year is down 33 percent to $80.32, and two years are 40 percent off at $143.86.
The Fire OS-based Fire HD 7 tablet has been cut from $139 to $79 in its standard edition, and from $189 to $129 in the Kids Edition bundle. The latter includes a rugged case and a year's subscription to FreeTime Unlimited, which offers up child-friendly books, games, movies, TV shows, and educational apps.
The company is moreover offering $15 off its Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV competitor, the Fire TV Stick, bringing the price down to $24. Temporary "lightning" deals are available on miscellaneous electronics, sometimes disappearing even quicker if demand surges.
Today's discounts are available to Prime subscribers only. Shoppers can, however, sign up for a 30-day trial of the service if they want to take advantage of Prime Day, and cancel before the trial period is over.

Just snagged an Amazon Echo for $129 (works great as a BT speaker for my iPhone 6)
What makes The sales of Apple products even more impressive is the fact that competitions can't get any traction even when they discount their wares to nest to nothing.

...and the consensus? "Prime Day sucks."

Kindle Fire for $79? Wasn't this piece of shit pegged and advertised as an iPad killer? Lol.

Yep, HD 7. It looks ass ugly and 8GB storage, let me tell you, I don't even buy it at $39.
I disagree with the early posters who claimed this article was irrelevant to Apple Insider.
Many of us care about what Apple's competitors are doing. The Amazon products listed in the title of this article compete with iPad and Apple TV, and the Amazon Prime service competes (somewhat) with Apple Match. I appreciate seeing this article.
The people have spoken:

Right, except this $14 Intocircuit 11200mAh Dual USB Portable External Battery Charger I got yesterday
Lucky for you because AI is the only news website on the web. Without this "article" you'd never know about these unrelated-to-Apple deals.
Even the few Kindles that are on sale are the older soon-to-be-replaced models.
And why is this junk being advertised in AppleInsider?
Think of it this way. Now, nobody will buy any of that Fire e-waste unless it's on sale.
So Amazon will only sell any of their forked-Android junk on Black Friday and Prime Sucker Day.
(And a week before the nephew's birthday if uncle is a techno-moron.)
Here's a good one:
