So I tell this to everyone who claims to be "waiting" for new specs: chasing specs is a losing game because your shiny new Mac or PC will be obsolete next year.
Waiting on specs can be very wise if it will leave you with a new generation of hardware. Here I'm talking USB-C, TB, and the new SkyLake GPUs. Sure it can be frustrating when Apple performs a major boo boo like it did with Mac Book, but I kinda doubt they will leave the PRO line up with one port.
There are two kinds of "Pro" buyers: people who use their computers professionally--as a tool for a job--and early adopters who want to feel good about having the newest technology (spec chasers). The latter category are sometimes "faux pros" in that their top spec Mac is more of a status symbol rather than workhorse.
Certainly those sorts of people exist, but there is really a third category, that is forward looking but frugal people. Interestingly they can exist as consumers and as pro users.
It's why I roll my eyes at those who claim to be waiting for the magical Skylake CPU (because, seriously, what job can Skylake do for that Haswell cannot?)
This comment is just as asinine as the people looking for a status symbol machine. SkyLake represents a new generation of chip technology.
I simply cannot picture a Trent Reznor or Coen Brothers waiting for Skylake when there are deadlines and projects to be completed.
Hard to say here. You must have at one time or another ran into people that apparently have tried to save every penny they have made. They could literally be millionaires and still live like they are on public assistance. Further people in business often have a very different attitude towards capital. The assumption that purchases are always made as needed in the business world isn't always valid.
Just order the Mac that supports your needs and budget and get to work. Why wait?
Because in many cases it is the right thing to do. USB-C for example gives you a whole new generation of I/O capability that will likely be good for at least another 5 years.
You'll be waiting forever if you chase whatever future hotness Intel puts into their roadmap for tech sites like Anandtech to salivate over.
Intel drives much of this. Everyone is waiting for the same chips.
the delay is driven by intel in this case. Xeons for broadwell came out Q1 this year or some ungodly late date, making the majority of pc/mac xeon updates out-of-cycle essentially.
Yup. That's why I hope Apple doesn't migrate to their own chips because of it. I know so many people who buy Macs to run Windows, because they love the design of the hardware hardware, but need Windows for work.
For a while there was no Mac advertising presence anywhere on TV, web or print,.
And on the flipside, there were a lot of Windows machines ads bashing the Macbook. But late last year, early 2015 for a few months there was a hurricane of Macbook commercials. The one with stickers on the back of the Macbook was everywhere.
i've been waiting to buy a new MAC PRO for 9 months. this wait for a new model is ridiculous. Could say the same about the iMac line.
Apple isn't giving enough attention to the Mac computer line. its actually pretty sad to see how infrequent updates come.
This is making me strongly consider a hackintosh and to give Windows 10 a real shot for some use.
This is normal for Apple - it's how they have always done things regarding Macs. They don't make commodity crap like other companies who update their shite every three months, so you're gonna have to wait if you want the real deal. Or you could just buy what they make right now like normal people do. When it comes to Macs, you don't wait for the latest, greatest thing - it just isn't worth the pain.

You aren't looking at the big picture here.

Hah, I might be a little slow today.

I have to imagine that helped just a wee bit.

A 23 inch retina iMac would be awesome. If not, I'd settle for a 21.5 inch model. It is a tad too small, but 27 inch is just too big for me.
