I've always been told that you had to go to the online store to get educational pricing. I'd love to get my next Mac at the store instead of waiting for FedEx.

I bought my airport basestation a couple of weeks ago at the ATL store with an edu discount. I had to show my ID, they photocopied it and gave me the edu store price. Several other people had their hardware purchases discounted as well. At the time, they were not offering software at edu prices (otherwise I would have picked up WO5, but that's a different story...) The salesperson I asked prior to making my purchase said that every one had been asking about the discount, so it wasn't just a fluke. I also saw a Duke faculty member buy a tibook with an edu discount way back in March... Take that for what you will. HTH

By that, I mean that the mall near me is literally across the street from Massachusetts. People from NH and Maine always skip across the border to pay for stuff without paying tax. Car dealers, furniture stores, computer shops, fireworks dealers, etc. all do very well in NH as a result.

Not to mention State run liquor stores

The funny thing is that those liquor stores are where the money for the state comes in.

    Hey Paul,

I'm a New Hampster resident and just, not two weeks ago bought an iBook/700, granted my wife is a teacher but I think you will have the same luck with your ID. Of course no sales tax, and the folks that are in that store are great. The guy did ask me if I lived in Mass, so I think since apple sells stuff in all 50 states you might fall under that tax rule. But, hey that's a CPA question

Anyway - the real reason for my post, when I was at the Salem/Rockingham Park store they had all the goodies in the back. Soooo, if you wanted 256MB upgrade they had that in the back, if you want to take things off of the box - this will be a problem. The Apple "retail" Stores only sell the stock models. For example if you go to the apple.com store and click on one of the boxes those are what they have, no more and no less.

Probably just more rhetoric for you - but oh well.

Esher, I just picked up an iBook/700 a couple weeks ago (at the store in question in NH) . But, yes they honored the Edu discount dollar for dollar from the website..

ah, so no swapping harddrives eh? oh well not a big deal...

I'll still save something like $500 between taxes and the EDU discount and shipping

now, to convince my parents to make the trip... who am I kidding, for $ my dad will do anything.... (well, almost...)
