    Name: Geoff Willingham

    Age: 17

    Primary Ocupation: Student (IT major)

    Other Occupation: Retail

I wish Occupation: Front-end develloper (see website in signature)

    Computers Currently in my house:

    Centris 610

    Centris 650

    iMac 233 (original)

    G3 beige 266Mhz

    Powerbook (Wallstreet) 400Mhz

    P III 850Mhz (HP)

    iMac 600 indigo

    Powermac 450 DP (MY comp)

Notes: the Centris 610 and 650 aren't in use and I think that I've voided every single one of these boxes' warenties multiple times. E xcept for the HP which has a CompUSA warrenty (just try to break it... you'll see) I'm not gonna list what exactly I've done to each but I'll give you an idea. My PM has 640 MB RAM, an extra internal HD, a zip drive, and a SCSI card and if you think that a certified someone put all that stuff in, you're kidding yourself. It's got a 21" Viewsonic monitor and so many USB devices that I have to get a hub.

Occupation: U of MN Sys Admin.

Old System: 1.4 Ghz Athlon, OC'd to 1.6. RAID, 3 video cards, 512 RAM, 166 GB of HD space, most of which is used. It's actually a current system, I haven't switched so much as expaned my horizons.

New System: 500 Mhz iBook that was a wedding present. Put in a new HD and upped the RAM, been pretty happy with the machine, still waiting for a few more OS updates.

Reason for switching: i keep my PC around for tinkering. i like to try new hardware, weird configs. PC's are great for swapping out parts. macs aren't. PC's are also dirt cheap. plus win2k server is a decent OS.

however, i love my Mac 'cause it's always working, reliable and rock solid.

Im actually quite the opposite. Im a mac guy who switched to PCs. God, getting along with windows is a nightmarish task, after using my old performa 6400 for a while I start to remember WHY I love macOS so much. Between the jungles of bizzare errors("this system has too many secrets" - some error I got), strange numbered DLLs, hours of updating that you have to do after reinstalling (they couldnt just make one neat installer that installed everything... nooooooo...), and the bloody registry, windows is a real drag.

However the hardware costs a fraction of the price, and upgrading even less so...

i don't consider myself a 'convert' since i still use pc's for a lot of my development. in 1999 i got my first job as a designer and i got a shiny new g3 with wacom tablet. typically, if i'm doing coding and programming i use a pc, because nothing beats macromedia homesite. i've tried pratically *every* equivalent coding program on a mac, but it just doesn't feel right. i also play pc games and you know how that goes

i do 95% of my graphic design work on a mac, because it really helps when you use adobe and macromedia apps (except homesite). the computers are just 'inspiring' when it comes to being creative.

My old PCs that I sold:

    286 Epson

Packardbell P100mhz 40megs ram, 6 gig hd <-- sweet machine (JOKE)

    200mhz AMD Homebuilt

Gateway Amdk6/2 400mhz <-- now just a case and motherboard

    Gateway P3 933, 512 sd, 40 gig

My current PC I own is a:

Compaq Presario 2700US Laptop running winXP. Its got a 20gig hd, 512 megs SDram, 8 megs video, 15" display, DVD, Cdrw, 3.5" floppy. This computer is rather nice, but windows is junk and I have had a lot of windows computers starting with Win 3.0 on the 286 epson.

For about a week now I have had my iBook 14" with 384 megs ram, 30 gig HD. All I can say is I will never go back between OSX and 9.2.2 I love it. The MacOS is so much better. I am so happy to be away from the wintel side upgrading every 6 to 10 months was getting old and buying a new PC every 2 years was getting rather old to. It went from being a hobby to a chore. Buying a mac at the apple store was my best buying experience ever. My current laptop is on Yahoo Auctions for sale. I run VPC just incase I may need to use windows since that is all you will find in this area. Well that is my story. MAC for LIFE <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />
