Apple's latest iPhone 6s family isn't slated to reach the public until Friday, but Sports Illustrated obtained an early access 6s Plus to shoot a preview of high resolution shots at San Francisco Giants baseball games at AT&T Park.

Following a similar photoshoot by Vogue at New York Fashion Week, Sports Illustrated assigned its early-access iPhone 6s Plus to photographer Brad Mangin.

"The phone boasts a 12 megapixel camera with advanced pixel technology, and is a lot quicker--making it great for shooting sports," the magazine noted in its sneak preview of the new iPhone 6s Plus.

Apple's latest iPhone 6s models are slated to ship at the end of this week, although at least one customer has already reported an early shipment of an iPhone 6s in Rose Gold.

In addition to higher resolution photos and 4K video, iPhone 6s models also support iOS 9's new Live Photos, a feature that incorporates ambient sound and the animated context of a captured photograph.

Pre-release photoshoots by sports and fashion photographers are rare events for Apple, but not unprecedented. Two years ago, Apple offered pre-release iPhone 5s units to Burberry in a collaboration to shoot the label's fashion show in September 2013.

Video captured by the then-new devices showed off their new ability to capture 120 fps Slomo videos of models strutting the catwalk while golden leaves fell from the sky.

And last year, Apple took advantage of Paris Fashion Week to introduce early editions of Apple Watch to a variety of prominent fashion-world celebrities including supermodel Karlie Kloss, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Chanel creative head Karl Lagerfeld.

Probably moved up since, sadly, there won't be a postseason for the Giants this year.

Similarly, the new Apple TV arrives about a month too late for that shiney new MLB.tv app for tvOS that was demoed at the Civic event.
