There is a grave difference between "not selling something" and "banning" it. Every retailer can decide what he sells, what he gives shelf space to etc.
The Amazon Marketplace has thousands of third party resellers, and it has a dominating position in many markets, while neither physical nor online Apple Stores have a dominating position in anything anywhere.
But, it is not fair for those marketplace people that Amazon banning them from selling. They ship from their home or store and don't take physical space in Amazon warehouses. In fact, Amazon makes money on them by providing few mbytes of cloud space to advertise.
silly debate there folks. Does Amazon need Apple selling anything for them?
I wonder how much Amazon makes selling Apple products? I wonder how much Apple makes from Amazon sales. I wonder what would happen if Apple were to ban the sale of any of their products through Amazon?
I would guess Amazon sells a decent amount of MacBooks. A huge plus buying from Amazon is you don't have to pay sales tax. I used to buy all my Apple products from Amazon until they started charging sales tax in California.
Then buy from Adorama, or B&H Photo. They're both in NYC, and wouldn't charge sales tax to CA residents.
Maybe Amazon will pull their own Amazon Video apps from the Apple App store (for iOS) as that is currently the only way that I think you can play Amazon Video on Apple TV.
You can't play Amazon Video in Canada, so big freaking whoop
More on-topic though, Amazon doesn't have >50% of the VOD market share, nobody does. If Netflix works just fine, Amazon is just lying through their teeth. You can't say the h.264 or h.265 codec in use by Netflix is any different than the same codec used by Amazon. And if they're using a different codec... well... there would be no hardware acceleration, even on their own products. Qualcom doesn't mention anything other than AVC https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/600
Apple, why can I watch ABC, HBO, ShowTime, CNN, Hulu and scores of other content providers - but I cannot log into my Amazon Prime streaming account from my AppleTV?
Because Amazon would need to give Apple a 30% cut of something they likely make very little on.
What Apple and Google need to do to fire back at Amazon is to pull the Amazon Echo app off of the iOS app store and Google Play. You wouldn't be able to update the device without the app. Since the majority of people are using Android and iOS, I'm sure that would get Amazon's attention.
I like this idea. You know because the Amazon Echo's confusing users away from Siri and Google Now. It's all very confusing to the consumer who isn't smart enough to realize what Prime Video is or know what to purchase.
I bought a circular saw on Amazon recently. It is a good saw but it does not run Amazon Prime video. I guess I will need to shop for tools elsewhere. Any suggestions?

You can place any context consumption App on as long as Apple get's their cut on content. Buy or rent a movie, Apple wants their cut. Have a subscription for content like Cable, Hulu, Netflix or countless others... you are welcome to add your Apple too.
I think the issue is not the Apple is preventing Amazon from adding an app, the issue is that Amazon doesn't want to pay Apple when someone wants to rent or buy content directly from the Apple TV. They know its too much of a PITA to switch between your Apple TV set top box and a web browser to buy or rent content.
For those thinking Apple TV 4 will have an Amazon App for sure.... consider what is going to be different from Amazon's point of view....in terms of Apple getting their cut for Amazon rented or purchased directly from the Apple TV.
Apple has banned stuff from both their online and physical stores.
And they have done it more than once.
Apple isn't a general retailer with a near monopoly on Internet shopping. That's why the term "monopoly abuse" comes into play here, but not for Apple.
If they're a monopoly, no. Learn about what a monopoly is. Some businesses have to play by different rules once they become monopolies. One thing they cannot do is use their monopoly position to unfairly benefit themselves at the expense of other competing businesses.
It's their website. Apple bans competitors from the App Store and forces others to use in app purchases or not have a buy button ( kindle for instance). I'd prefer both companies relented.

Hmm. Anti-trust law in the US cares more about harm to consumers rather than harm to other retailers or middle men.

Still find it hard to believe that Amazon HAS TO carry every product.
And not like you can't get the current ancient as all hell Apple TV or the Chromecast anywhere else.

I actually use B&H Photo now. Great company.

I guess this answers the question as to whether the new Apple TV (4) will have an Amazon Video app.
I think you're right. The day the new Apple TV was announced, I wrote a letter to Jeff Bezon making the case for Amazon to develop a Prime Video App.
