I find it amusing how those who seem not to be fans of this product are the ones most concerned about how Apple is positioning it in the marketplace. Initially it was too exclusive and they thought it laughable Apple was selling it in higher end boutiques and advertising in Vogue. Now apparently it's laughable that it's no longer "exclusive" and is being sold at Target. Because apparently it makes no sense to sell what's currently an iPhone accessory in stores that sell iPhone, and doing so during the holiday season. Because it would be so much smarter to keep it exclusive to a few boutique retailers, or have brought it to BB and Target from day one even though it was supply constrained. It couldn't be that these additional roll outs were in the cards from day one when Apple new supply wouldn't be constrained and to have it available in more places for the holiday shopping season. No it has to be that Apple is confused and doesn't have a clue how to position this in the marketplace.
Last I checked the $1500 Hermes ?Watch is stainless -- are you saying Hermes is not a luxury brand?
An iPhone is a commodity item, which requires little customer service to sell. Apple has shown us from the start that the watch requires special attention, from booked appointments, to band selection, to wrist sizing. Target is going to have to do a lot more than they currently do to convey that experience. Anything less and it seemingly taints the image Apple has been trying so hard to cultivate.
But Target won't have all that. It'll be, go to Target, ask for the Apple Watch, pay for it, leave. Simple.

It's much easier to jjust mindlessly parrot whatever position Apple takes on the watch no matter how contradictory or hypocritical it may be?
Asking more questions, with less "straw man" hyperbole would lead to less ass-u-mptions about others.

Yes you're right ... I'm thinking that's exactly how it will be. They will have a few models in stock, probably the sport bands (which are one-size-fits all), and basic leather. Unless people want to try them on, there shouldn't be much of a problem. But isn't that the whole point of having them at brick and mortar stores?

Actually, many are more mindlessly parroting whatever position people who actually OWN ONE take on the watch, no matter how contradictory it may seem to somebody who has no interest in understanding why people might like it.
I've got an Apple Watch, but I find that I use it primarily just for notifications. Hopefully, most people aren't like me and are getting far more use out of their watch.
Notifications are great in the watch. But there is a lot you can do with it. Be brave embrace the ?Watch
I use it mostly for notifiactions but also
?Pay (best thing ever on the ?Watch)
Messaging
Phone calls or maybe is it watch call now hmm!
Ask Siri quick questions
Weather
Calendar
Fitness tracking
Check my Heart beat
Music both as a remote and I have music on the watch to use with Bluetooth for when I go to the gym, I leave my phone in the car.
Starbucks card ( wallet)
Maps
And I like using the camera remote.
After 3 days I returned mine. I bought the Rose Gold Sport version to match my Rose Gold 6s+ and I have to say I tried to make myself like the watch but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I work at a daycare in a gym and I really thought it would motivate me more but my Fitbit does that as well as take my heart rate. As for the notifications it was okay but considering the fact that my phone is glued to my hip except at bedtime was useless for notifications. I'll give it another go once the 2nd generation is out next year.
if you don't need activity tracking or notifications, what could possibly change your mind with v2?

but she's right. you've bagged on the watch all along, and now that it's getting into more retail you just choose to interpret some bizarre "I'm concerned" narrative out of it. you know what we call that?

Notifications are the last thing I use the watch for. But that doesn't diminish its value in my eyes at all. That's not to say I don't use notifications, I do like that when I go into the local Coffee house at the beach on the weekend without my phone and wallet I can pay with ?Pay, and I can check to see if anyone has been trying to get in touch with me. That really gives me peace of mind. I actually use the watch for time far more than anything. The prospect of making wifi calls from my watch if necessary at hotspots when I'm out without my phone is also compelling. I've also used it to unlock my hotel room, and that's an amazing feature, which has me searching for a compatible door lock for my house. I use the watch mainly as an iPhone replacement, on the weekends and when I don't want to have to worry about carrying it. I haven't really needed many of the other features, I don't track my fitness, or use it for music, or much else, but that's not what sold me on it. I think it's fine that a product doesn't do everything as along as it does what you need it to do. In fact, I think Apple put too much into the first watch, and could have left a few things out. Nevertheless, I consider it a great investment for me despite not using it to its full capacity. I'd like to see a camera added in a future generation, because that's the one thing I'd like to do that I can't when I'm out without my iPhone, is take a picture of something interesting.

a camera on a watch is a terrible idea. you won't have a view finder, nor will you have a sufficient screen to review photos on. and FaceTime? that would be awful.

I don't know, I have to disagree with you here. A face time camera for a quick FaceTime call would be nice.
Now, to take photos not so much. It wouldn't be a very good camera, picture quality wise, I think.
But I would like a FaceTime camera, some times I get a FaceTime call and I can't answer it on the watch,
I have to take my phone out, and some time it can be a little hustle. I am not trying to complain, it would just enhance
An already (in my opinion) great product.

And I'd rather have a camera than not, even if it wasn't the highest quality. Apple is quite concerned with accommodating the Selfi, there's no other way to explain burst mode on the front camera, upgrading the camera MP, and adding a special self flash incorporated into the display. Having the ability to snap a selfie on the ?Watch would be far more convenient than fishing out the phone from your bag or pocket, and it would be pretty easy to take with the watch. It would be much more difficult to take pictures of other things ... but you know what, I've had an iPhone since the original in 2007, and I remember having to take selfies without being able to see the screen, and I got pretty good at framing that way. In fact sometimes I take pictures now where I can't see the screen because of the angle, and I've gotten pretty good at framing them too. It's not an ideal situation for the watch obviously, but then that's not why Apple is putting it there -- they're including it for FaceTime calls and selfies. If the customer wants to use it for other things, then more power to them. But otherwise I'm in total agreement with you, and I think it would be a big selling point for a particular demographic.
In another note, did AI do an article about the lock activation On the ?Watch. I like this is finally here. I got the notification on my watch today. And I forgot to take An screen shot before dismissing it. Rrr

The Watch works with WIFI too.
Not sure what's you problem with BT though, it's just a low power, low level communication protocol, it can be as secure/unsecure as can be depending on its implementation and implementation of actual communications through it (is it encrypted end to end, etc).
Either you trust Apple to have done a good job there or you do not; seems you do not?
Do you trust WIFI to be on all the time too, there really isn't much of a difference security wise in later BT security and WIFI; the latest version of the protocol even allows routing IP over it.
The advantage of Blue Tooth LE is that it is low power. For a watch this is a major advantage.
Do you mean you'd prefer having a cell comm chip/plan for your watch?
That uses way more power (so you'd need a bigger watch) and if the screen is still small you'd wouldn't be able to do more with your notifications than you do now. If you ad GPS, you'd need an even bigger watch.
Don't think this is coming in V2. Not at all. Power usage, or battery tech needs to improve for this to occur. And even then, your still stuck with the small screen.

A camera would be TERRIBLE and get watches banned from certain place, and they'd be tons of bad PR about that. Same issue as with Google Glass really, except even more stealth...

This is a very good point. I had not thought of that.
Doesn't change the fact that the Hermes ?Watch is identical to the stainless ?Watch regardless what band is on it. Not only that but it will be the most expensive watch Target sells in it's stores by far. The next most expensive Women's watch they sell is an $84.99 Timex, and a $129.99 men's no-name Star Wars watch, or Casio Brand. That's some nice company Apple is sharing.
