Talent behind 'Steve Jobs' didn't worry about looking like or appeasing their real-life counterparts

This is not about thinking for yourself. This is about showing respect and decency to the family of Jobs. When there is a movie authorized by Jobs family then I will watch it.

The Walter Isaacson book was "authorised".  Didn't make it any good.

<p>Why didn't Danny Boyle cast Cate Blanchett as Steve Jobs? She's played Bob Dylan once and appearance was not important for this movie, right? Oh, but wait... Seth Rogan looks marginally like Woz and Jeff Daniels looks slightly like John Sculley... This is just a flimsy excuse since they couldn't get Christian Bale for the role. Fassbender is a fine actor, but he was not their first choice.</p>

<p>"Fassbender is a fine actor?"  Are you being serious?  Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Bale fan.  But Fassbender is one of the greatest actors on the planet.  I mean, for god's sakes, just watch "Hunger" and you know all you need to know.</p>

These are two of the dumbest things I've ever read on this site, and that's saying something.

Hmm...in my opinion OS X is just as important as the original Mac. Did the filmmakers reach out to Avie Tevanian? Is he featured in the film at all?

What if someone made a movie about your Father?  And lets say your father was a straight man, but someone decided to make a movie that said your father was actually secretly gay (not judging gays).  Would you like that?  But lets say the movie is entertaining.

That's whats wrong with people now days.  They don't care about truth as long as its entertaining.

    Sure, why not?

If it's a decent and entertaining movie, I would have no problem with a fictionalized account of my father being portrayed as gay. I wouldn't have a problem if a woman played my father either. I don't expect all of my entertainment to be based on truth and only the truth. I expect my entertainment to be entertaining. I know my father pretty well and am positive that we would all be entertained if it was a decent flick.

Movies, books, TV, video games, plays, etc. can all be plenty entertaining even though they may be fictionalized things that are loosely based on real events.

Ms Jobs is 100% against this movie.  Who would know the REAL Jobs more than her?

And if they were so set on making an entertaining movie instead of telling the real story why not just make a movie about a fictional character based on the life of Jobs?  They didn't because using Jobs name brings in $

Listen, I am doing my best to try to play along with your absurd hypothetical situation. What I can say is that in the imaginary scenario that you have made up, my father would not be against it.

But lets stretch our imaginations a little bit more and also assume that my father was a public figure like Steve Jobs and was 100% against it. Would I actively support it? Most likely not, because in this imaginary scenario that you have concocted my father would be 100% against it and I would support him in that.

That being said, it would be extremely unlikely that I or my father would waste any of our time actively trying to stifle free speech that is in the name of entertainment, political comment or satire. We would not waste a second of our time and try to get it shut down. In fact I would owe it to myself to at least see the movie one time so I knew what I was being said about my father. Instead of simply putting my head in the sand and pretending like it didn't exist.

Freedom of speech is more important to me than worrying about people making a buck at my fathers expense. I have far less respect for people who try to stifle speech than those who are trying to make a quick buck.

I'm not sure if I will go to see this movie or not but then again I don't get a lot of time to go out and see a lot of movies at the theatres because I don't have the time. It sounds like this is one of those that should have have had simultaneous theatre and on line release since I have a feeling the box office take will not be high.

The problem I have with it is the timing of its release date. I don't think it's a coincidence that Sorkin's planned it for a date so close to the anniversary of Steve's death. This is just shameless marketing that takes advantage of a time when Steves life should be celebrated for the good that he accomplished. The death of anyone, famous or just a member of your family, should be a celebration of their life and remembrance. Not a sordid movie focused on a dark time of their life.

One more thing. Mr. Wozniak will say anything to keep himself relevant including anything controversial. His contributions to Apple were important in the early years but he faded when the technology passed his level of knowledge and capabilities. He should use his wealth from Apple to create a new product that he can talk about but sadly I don't think he has the business sense or drive to do it.

Sorkin has little to no say in release date. That's on whomever is distributing the film. Also I suspect that had Steve died in February the movie would have been released sometime around now anyway because they view this as an Oscar type film and as such will be released anytime from October until December

This is an Oscar bait film and they<re always released from October to December, to be fresh in the mind of the voters.

So, it has nothing to do with SJ's death anniversary.

Denzel Washington could have done a good job maybe. Very intense, obsessed, charismatic personality.
