I agree. The new Music app UI is so bad I don't even know where to start. I am not a fan of Google's "material design" concept either. In general, I think GUIs have been getting worse over the past 5-6 years. With each new software update UIs seem to be getting less intuitive, more cumbersome, and primary content is relegated to less and less screen real estate. What used to take two clicks now takes a click, a swipe, and two more clicks. That kind of thing.

Why is the giant red header twice the size of a typical iOS App header? Are you kidding me?
Oh and no PiP or Slideover support for iPad...FAIL.
No 3D Touch support....FAIL.
