Must be a lot of fat old ladies in the world. Maybe some millenniums still buy albums, but young people today mostly stream, buy tracks or just listen on YouTube. I've heard a couple short clips of her on TV, and I admit she has a very strong vocal range but I think the music itself is really boring and old fashion. Honestly, I think Apple's relationship with U2 is a mistake as well. They are a has been group. As much as I dislike modern popular music, I believe Apple should stick with young hip artists to complement their Beats brand.
¿Que? This doesn't sound like you at all.
1) You say it's old fashion and then say you dislike modern music.
2) Who do you think made Taylor Swift's '1989' album go platinum last year? Fat old ladies? She was 24yo when it came out. Adele is only 27yo now.
3) Regarding streaming, Adele's new single is the record to beat in streaming, beating Taylor Swift's 1-day record for "Bad Blood," and Miley Cyrus' record to 100,000,000 VEVO views for "Wrecking Ball" in just 5-days. How are those artists and songs only for "fat old ladies"?
It is possible the physical media proposal was an early negotiating gambit. Probably not critical to the deal, but if they could get it, it would be nice. So her management might have put it in there with no intention of following it through.
That, or her management are amazingly out of touch, and just approached Apple because they have a lot of money.
So it's either a very canny move, or an amazingly stupid one. Either way I suspect it's a relatively minor aspect of the deal, and I doubt you'll see CDs of her new album in Apple Stores. They might do the iTunes Card thing, where you pay whatever the going rate is this week, and get an iTunes code that gives you that exact album, but even that's unlikely.

On reading this topic a second time, you seem to have a history of mstone's posts, but methinks he is posting just to get responses...maybe a lonely day for him. The post says"...As much as I dislike modern popular music..." but still grinds Apple for tying in with one of the most popular pops now, yeah, including JB and Swifty.
The Hello mv critique: "Old flip phones, 1980s style land lines old fashion clothing, and furnishings, etc." concluding it's "old fashioned" only says the poster has NO idea of retro mv, and likely would shriek in horror with most contemporary pd forms.
Still can't get over "fat old ladies"...now THAT seems old fashioned..something, yeah, my grandpa might have said, had my grandma not been ever present with her glare.
Sites like this are like the bar in my Pop's fav show, Friends...everybody gets to have an opinion, including me, though I usually come away with some helpful Apple/tech knowledge and absolutely shouldn't apply that here.
No way would they stock CDs do yesterday's technology and surely Adele would be associated with it, she may as well try and sell cassette tapes.
Does Starbucks still offer CDs? Now there was an odd one IMHO.
ETA: OTOH I fairly recently DID buy two music Cds, from a busker pianist who I frequently hear playing in NYC's Washington Square park on a full size piano. Impressive logistics feat versus a violinist.
The director of Adeles video said he used flip phones as smart phones tend to "remind us too much of the real world". Whatever dude.
I'm not necessarily a fan, normally, of big ballads but she's talented as f*ck. Great vocals. Impressive song writing skillz. Popular across age groups. Would be a good catch for Apple.
I think it is purposefully old fashion. I found her Hello music video and it IS old fashion to the Nth degree.
Old flip phones, 1980s style land lines old fashion clothing, and furnishings, etc.
And BORING! it just goes on and on.
Yet, it's going to go #1 and sell a crapload to everyone; maybe you're old fashioned...
BTW, I listen to a crapload of fringe alternative tracks since the early 1980s, some things that never even bubbled under on any chart, a few became mainstream eventually.
yet I still like this style too. Anyway, good thing the people who signed her don't have your myopic view or they'd be kicking themselves as hard as those that passed on he Beatles. Comparatively to the rest of the market, that's how much she has sold in the last 6 years.
Ok, so what would be a reasonable amount to you? 25M? 20M? What factors are you using to determine this? What criteria? Where are your numbers for upside? What makes you think you can better assess if it's "worth" 30M to Apple, than Apple themselves? Show us a shred of tangible evidence for such an assessment. I'd love to know. 30M is alot to you and me, but to a global company like Apple that made almost 2000X that revenue last QUARTER, it is peanuts. If i has a positive effect on the brand, even slight, than I don't see how one would be hungup over 30M. But again, please tell us exactly what it should cost, because obviously you've done the study and have strong opinions that it's not "worth it".

True, their gauges are different. How much did U2 get for that pr stunt? 90 million?
Comments
I see what you did there, lol, her grammar isn't too hot is it?
Plus they probably all have CD drives (if not floppies) LOL
I'd bet Adele has floppies.

Physical media. In Apple stores. Some kind of bad TBT joke?
Which is why Apple is reported to have rejected that suggestion.

Sad to see the typical "not music" comments from some posters. Just because you aren't into it, doesn't mean it isn't any good.
And if this sponsorship boosts ?Music profile, I'd say Apple will go with it - but on their terms. It is their money after all.
Not for $30M.

News Flash: People like stuff you don't like. They're allowed to. Get over it.
