(This is what my mom said after seeing the Sarah Whistler and Mark Fraunfelder ads. She's a long-time Mac user but she's not a fanatic.)
She said that the ads were dumb for showing off all the losers who use Macs. Sarah and Mark, while they may or may not be losers, really seem like them from the ads. Who wants losers endorsing their products? Would any company want Tonya Harding endorsing their product? Didn't think so.
Then again, if we portrayed people from creative fields (such as Sarah and Mark) in the way that people often see them, it'd be equally bad because they'd be elitist bastards that we love to hate (imagine some film artiste going on about how the Mac helps him express himself better). The current people we just love to pity.
I noticed that Apple's print ads are cool. They show off how good the computer is, not how bad the competition is. Why doesn't Apple make some TV ads that are a lot like their print ads? Or at least bring back Jeff Goldblum. I'd rather listen to him than the switch people.
