We have some openings in the mod squad and we're open to applications.

If you're interested, please <a href="http://mailto:jonathan@appleinsider.com"; target="_blank">email me with your name, age, and a short statement about your reasons for wanting to become a moderator.

Please make the subject of your email 'mod application' so my mail rules will throw it into the right folder.

Applications will be accepted until this coming Friday, July 19.

So in other words, the people who apply have no shot, right?

Seems like bad timing...after all, many or most of the people who would be good moderators will be in New York for MacWorld and will therefore not have the time to write books on the joys of moderatorship.

Oh! Oh! Let me be a mod! Oh wait... I have a life.. (no offense mods!). It was more of a jab at seeing this thread. Didn't we just talk about this in the "Kudos" thread? So we both know that anybody who has aspirations of being a mod (GOD KNOWS WHY THEY'D WANT THAT!) has no chance in hell. Right? So this thread is really a joke on us. (which is kinda crappy to do seeing as how I'm sure you'll get dozens of emails from Mac happy SOBs from the board). So why tug our chain Jon? I mean really....

PS. Don't worry, my application will be in the mail in all of 5 minutes... oh wait. Never mind. I'm admin on my own board elsewhere.

To the doubters: your ideas of the mod selection process are not true at all.

I will not lie and say that all appointments have been made through the application process.

I will not lie and say that it's a perfect system- However, I will say that this is the way that we feel selects the best candidates for the job.

Of course the admins and existing mods have a group of people who we'd like to see apply in mind- we're human, and certainly not impartial in all things. However, it's not to say that we necessarily just go and immediately say YES if we receive an application from them. Frankly, this time, we don't have any pre-set candidates in our heads for the most part- no automatics, as it were.

With 5000+ members, it's very easy to overlook good candidates. Certain people are very solid candidates for moderatorship, but aren't necessarily the most prominent posters. When we receive an application from such people, it's sort of like 'oh yeah, he'd be really good for the job too'.

    It's generally a difficult decision.

This time around, it's quite probable that you will see a LOT of new mods. Not just two- because the whole 'global moderator' thing doesn't give individual forums enough attention. Not guaranteeing anything, but it's my personal belief that we need to inject a lot of new people into the mod pool.

Jonathan Brisby- if you read the 'Kudos' thread again, you'll notice that we didn't say that those with aspirations of becoming a moderator were ignored, but rather those whose aspirations caused them to ask many many times, without solicitation, to become a mod. Now's the time that these people should send me an email. In short, i'm not tugging anyone's chain.

I think that's better suited to PMs or email, Anders.

Nominations, then, are also welcome in my inbox.

Please also include the top 3 forums that you would like to mod, if you had to pick one.

A top-3 list, as it were.

OH! and your forum name, too.
