Your confusion extends to who has these issues, because it is not myself but rather the poster to whom I was responding and some others on this thread whose experience I'm not going to bother questioning as there's a myriad of ways this might be occurring so why not take as a given they are experiencing what they're writing rather than lying about it? Is my thought.
Never suggested they were lying. Incorrect / incomplete recollection, other issues impacting, potential for 3rd party apps being poorly designed, failure to establish true root cause of issue .... You know the standard test and evaluation issues. I did emphasise that I couldn't square their observations with my own experience and that my regular experience had been positive. As to who is right / wrong - impossible to prove but I hope to make it clear there is an alternative view on whether or not Apple have put enough thought into watch passbook implementation (imho they have)

"their observations"?
No, you wrote you couldn't square MY criticisms with your observations. "I don't recognise your criticisms based on my experience."
I tried using my watch to scan the boarding pass last time I flew. It was awkward because the watch face shut off every time I tilted my wrist to put it in the scanner. Apple really needs to deactivate automatic shutoff when passbook items are being displayed.

With my Watch: (i) The clock auto-shuts off in about 6 seconds; (ii) Wallet items shut off if wrist is turned sideways and away,* but stay on for at least 15-25 seconds (it seems to vary for some reason) when the wrist is facing straight up; (iii) ApplePay, which comes on when one double-presses the bottom right button, stays on for as long as I want until I shut it off with a single press on that button.
*Add: Ha! I just figured out that when the Watch is turned facing sideways and away, a single press on the bottom right button brings up and holds the Wallet item -- if it was already up -- for 15 seconds or so.

Bearing in mind that I was looking to discuss rather than argue....however, my point in reference to your specific comment and my impression that you were the last in chain concurring with a view that suggested a software design shortfall was that a) I believe it already has this feature and that therefore b) in my experience there was no shortfall.
Update: I concur with anantksundaram - your observations match my experience using the watch
I haven't had a problem with the screen shutting off, but then I tap the QR code to make it full screen which maybe the others aren't doing.
It's not just the BA scanners that have the problem its also the immigration ones, just a bad design of the scanner it has a very narrow gap not big enough for wrist plus watch. Or maybe it was a good design if they are getting another huge order for new scanners!

When, to repeat and be clear, I didn't make any.
