Hyundai on Friday announced that its latest sedan, the 2017 Elantra, will launch later this month with support for both Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto.

The smartphone integration will be available on models with either a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen system, the latter including separate navigation options and an improved homescreen. To trigger Siri or Google voice commands while a phone is connected, drivers will only need to hit a button on the steering wheel.

Since the vehicle's CarPlay support depends on a Lightning connection, a second USB port will be present for charging other devices.

Hyundai didn't offer any immediate details on pricing. It did, however, add that it will soon reveal details on other vehicles with CarPlay and Android Auto support, and how people can update some existing cars.

The company created some controversy recently when it said that a promised free CarPlay upgrade for Sonatas will now cost extra. The upgrade is already over a year late, and Sonatas have had access to Android Auto at no charge.

Yep, they normally wait at least a few months before selling cars from 12 months in the future!  lol  I can't remember if they did that in the UK as it's 25 years since I left but it certainly is the MO of all car makers in the USA.  Given they all do it it seems rather pointless.
