I don't understand - why Trademark the Split-View at all..
Why does Apple have to trade-mark it - is it that important...
These are common language words - and should be left open
Been using "split view" since the 1990s I guess I should retroactively ban myself ;-).
I was think the same thing. I been using a 21" or larger monitor since the earily 90's and would always have two app window open side by side or top to bottom depending on that I was doing. This is nothing new and some idiots in Indian name an app splitview and we all have to stop using that term.
@sog35 - it is a private company suing another private company. What has India got to do with it. Should we start blaming the US for the bazillion frivolous cases that are filed there?
I am sure apple can lawyer up and deal with it, and this is just the beginning of the case.
There’s not a thing racist about stating that India’s HDI is rock bottom and that it hasn’t grown as quickly as China’s. Or that no matter how hard China’s government seems to try, they still can’t create new infrastructure as bad as what India has now.
As for what a given nation has to do with a copyright case therein, it’s up to the nation in question to pass sane or insane laws regarding said copyrights.
After tens of thousands of engineers, who received the equivalent of a post-doc fellowship in the US courtesy of our generous H1B visa program, have returned home, you have the unmitigated gall to raise a trademark issue over a term that has demonstrably been used by a variety of companies for over 20 years? We'll settle this post haste by revoking and curtailing H1B visas for Indian nationals.
Has Microsoft trademarked the Latin letter "E" and sued everyone who has published written works using the Latin letter "E"?
App is not a word before Apple created iPhone OS, but Application.
Heh heh. Indeed, just as the word "curate" was a rather obscure term referring to work that librarians did prior to Steve Jobs' use in some product intro, probably the same time that "app" became a word. Now everyone who used to moderate or edit or host or catalog now "curates."

As much as I’d like that to be true, it’s not. They certainly made its popularity explode, but it was used in both the software context and in the restaurant context before 2007.

Spouse: what do you want for dinner?
Me: I dunno, let me curate the fridge.
