I have always named my Mac's.

My main computer is always called Wonderland. (Thus is my Powerbook 500 currently named)

My other Mac's all have different names and they can change depending upon how they currently perform.

    Mac names include

    Basketball Jones

    Dixie Cup

    Doorstop

    Dinosaur

    Snausages

    etc...

    names are fun...

    Nick

at our work all machines were named after greek gods.

of course, i had to go with <a href="http://www.iop.com/~bynoe/G_Mythos1.htm"; target="_blank">alcimedes</a>.

I make a point of not naming the machines in my life. Hell, I don't even have a name for my car, why would I name my computer - even if it is a Mac?

i generally refer to my computer as:

    [my name goes here]'s computer.

i've never had more than 1 in use at a time, so no need to distinguish it from anything. tho i intend on getting a tibook soon. i'll prolly call it "laptop", or "titanium laptop" or "titop". or something really creative like that.

The 3 drives are named, "Startup", "MP3s" and "Excessive" (because at the time, excessive was 20gigs and 20gigs was a lot). And, actually, "Startup" isn't my boot disk, but it was during my days of os9. Excessive is the one i startup off of. (classic is still on "startup" tho)

My iBook HD is named Hobbes and my 7500 HD is named Calvin. Though i differentiate between computer names and HD names. Both of my girls (yes there chix) are unnamed.

    My car is name Camilla

my Macs have always been named "Oblivax" for some stupid reason. Obliviscor means forget in Latin... so I kinda made it up. Luckily. my macs have never 'forgotten' anything. I partitioned my iBook so the 2nd partition is called, "Plan B"

My work Macs were called "Calvin" and the external SCSI HD was "Hobbes". The G4 we had was called "Marvin" (with a great Looney Tunes icon), and the last G4 before I left was called "Woodstock".

My network name is something lame like "Zo's iBook"

I tend to rename the drives after my SN or handle, though I've kind of stuck with calling my drive Jamos (yes I have only one partition, I have found that there are other means of organazation besides needlessly splitting my drive up into many fragments.)

While the older Macs have names like Classic and Duo, the 6400 is the BatMac.

My PC is called ook8d4 because that's what the first random name Win98 generated was. A major upgrade later and change of OS (Win2K and Linux) and I've kept the name.

    iMac 800 = Thoth (boring)

    Pwrbk G3 = Bigboote

If you need pronounciation help w/ the last one its

Big - boot - ay. As in John Bigboote from The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai.

    Thoth

PS: I'm considering changing the iMac's name to Asswipe (pronounced the same way as bigboote), or perhaps the name of a former girlfriend, Anna Falaxis....
