That was fast. I didn't expect a full rollout until just before the holiday shopping season. I wonder if Walmart is negotiating with Apple to finally get Apple Pay integration.

this is in place of Apple Pay. and it's likely why it will fail. You are still giving Walmart your account deets which would conceivably be recorded somewhere and stolen during a system hack. With Apple Pay you give an obscured device number that can't be used with any other tool. That number literally only works on the iPhone it was created for.

And even if the Walmart system is secure the perception exists that it isn't and thus folks will be less wanting to use it if they have any other choice.

One would have to be near destitute to jump through the hoops required to use this app for the opportunity of receiving a meagre saving:
    • The system makes no attempt simplify the payment process or even balance the work required between the consumer and cashier. The consumer needs to do more than current payment systems, while the cashier does less.
    • The app is offensively inconvenient, while the consumer has more work to do and gives up transaction protections, the store gains luxuries such as tracking information and access to the users bank account. This app grossly over estimates the typical Walmart customers tech competency: Finding the app and doing a dance of barcode scanning is neither easier, conventional or more convenient than a bankcard or cash.
    • The burden of security/faults is on the consumer since Walmart are seeking direct access to savings accounts E.G. The consumer gives up the protections that a credit card provides and is pitted against a massively powerful 3rd party anytime there is a disagreement in billing.
Hmmm ... I have noticed that 99% of the people who rail against the terrible-ness of Android and Windows phones have only used iPhones.
Yeah, because who wants to use things that fucking suck?

I can say that I'll NEVER use Walmart Pay!!! I'll stick with a credit card as it's just easier for those rare times I visit the place.
Nowhere I know of sells Cheetos at such a low price so I go there a lot .  Before some snark asks I am 5' 9' and weigh 155 pounds, very fit and have multiple degrees.   I just love Cheetos!  LOL

For Target and Walmart I only use cash. Cannot trust either of them with my credit card or shopping information.

I just say no to Walmart. I hate going to their stores. Walmart's service is pretty mediocre and their clientele makes the experience positively awful. I've been honked at, yelled at and given menacing looks far more in Walmart's parking lots than anywhere else.

The hassle is just not worth the minuscule savings, especially as a Costco member. As an Amazon Prime member nearly all of my online transactions are with them.

Walmart pay is a gimmick. There will be some that use it, but most won't. And if most everyone else is using Apple Pay, they won't be able remain a hold out for too long.

I doubt they will be able to compete with Amszon over the long term anyhow.
