I try to use it whenever I see it's available. It's just not as available as I'd like it to be. Plus, many retail establishments STILL require a signature for Apple Pay purchases. Absurd!

yes the "ERRNT! ERRNT! ERRNT!" sound at CVS was atrocious. further proof that nobody has any idea what they're doing, from the POST manufacturer who supplied the sound to the retailer CTO who okayed it. anti user. they're clueless.

That sound was to get your attention so you remember to remove your card.  But, I agree that it was a poor choice.

I'm still surprised at the number of people that haven't ever seen someone pay with an Apple Watch.  I've had mine since launch - and it still gets comments when I use it (just did yesterday at Petco).

I have one particular shopping string I do where  I can pay with the Watch at every store: Walgreens->Starbucks->Petco->Wilson's Farm (local farm).  One of these days I'm going to attempt to leave my wallet at home and try it :-)
the sound was also used when it's time to insert your card. it was jarring and anti-user.

Something's wrong if merchants are still amazed in mid 2016.

I wish Apple would have rolled it out along with merchants instead of just banks.

The annoying AndroidPay and softcard piggybacking made the situation more confusing.

Retail cashier turnover can be quite high. And incoming training sketchy.

In Australia, Paypass has become a standard for several years so ApplePay is not new here, although with enhanced security. That's why it would take a longer time to convince the big four banks to adapt it. Each of these banks already invested in Paypass. Right now we only have one bank that support ApplePay but no indications for the others to follow.
Yeah, but what % of Aussies does the ANZ cover?

The "4 big banks" have no interest in ApplePay unless Apple is willing to come down on the cut they want. Currently it'w a stalemate and IMO the longer it goes on the less leverage Apple has with so many other equally secure mobile payment options.

As many as there are people who want to bank with them.

I use Apple Pay when possible. It is SO much faster and easier than using chip cards and entering pin code or signing.
I totally agree. Some places that I'm really just unsure if they have Apple Pay, I ask, and the cashier literally has no idea what I'm talking about.

Also, I've never used a pin while using my chip card, just signing above a certain amount. I think a pin is much better though.
for those of us in developed countries with contactless cards since the mid-late 2000s, apple pay is just about on-par speed wise with beeping our cards. a tad slower if anything - never had a contactless transaction fail on my card but had 2 recently fail via apple pay - it appears to work and I get confirmation of transaction and cost but cashier's till says otherwise and I then have to pay by card. I was out out the shop and chased down the street one of the times it didnt work, quite embarrassing.

for me also, getting out my tiny LV wallet is quicker than getting out my comparatively bulky iphone 6s to then press a button when I just wave my wallet over the card reader, card still inside.

as for signing, I'm now 30 and I've never had to sign to pay for anything in the 16 years I've had debit and credit cards. why so stoneage?
