I really wish Apple could somehow calculate its Energy Usage from Manufacturing partners, Retails, shipping etc.... and produce enough Clean Energy to offset these usage. So Apple will be net NET Carbon Zero emission.
Apple's 100% renewable energy goal includes its retail and shipping. Apple also tracks all sorts of environmental footprints -- including energy usage -- throughout its value chain, from manufacturing through to customer use and disposal (not sure if they do raw material extraction, though).
Apple is already 100% CO2-free for its direct emissions (that includes retail and shipping) in both the US and China. http://www.apple.com/environment/
I wonder if Amazon will build a coal burner and ask to sell THAT overcapacity into the grid.
Why not, that's exactly what's going on in the midwest. Here in IL we've got coal generators polluting the air and raping the land, whilst established clean-power nuclear plants in the state are being closed by the utilities because of over-production.
