This will matter to photography nerds. As for the general public all smartphones take “good enough” pictures for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Grandpa’s 90th birthday, Fappening.com, etc.
I disagree. I don't think 'normal' people will care much but a shot that can throw the background slightly out of focus is very often more pleasing to the eye. A chip with greater light sensitivity takes better low light photos. A faster processor means quicker snapping. a better lens mens sharper images. I think everybody will care about this even if they don't know they do. Given the same subject you'll always pick the better image, no?
Apple implemented dual lens camera correctly very well compared to the iPhone competitor companies like Huawei, HTC, and LG. But the potential for multiple cameras are huge. Apple made a huge step forward.
Did they really? 2x Optical? That's not really all that much and a future bokeh effect that only works on faces. So that's kind of limiting. There's no 3D which is going away. What else is there that they really couldn't do with a single camera? I think it's on the Gimmick side of things.
2x is not much but it is a lot better than none. The iPhone camera has a pretty wide angle and to get a little closer is great imo. Its not going to help you take close ups of your kids on the soccer field, granted, but it definitely will increase the scope of your options. I think we need to wait to judge the bokeh effect for when it is here. If you are very cynical this is a little gimmicky but every minor iteration of camera improvement always seem like hot air until you skip back several iterations. Apple might be overselling it, but that is to be expected.
1) I thought the internets agreed that the 7 Plus was a gimmick¡
2) I like that Apple doesn't press the aluminium "bump" for the camera(s), and I don't mind that it exists, although it seems like a lot of people still take umbrage with the back not being perfectly smooth.
3) I wish I enjoyed taking photographs more. Personally, I still find it a chore, even with how simple Apple has made it to take great photos. There is one thing I would like to see with smartphone cameras: landscape photos and videos whilst holding in portrait-orientation. With two cameras of the same orientation, would it not be possible to interpolate two images/frames into a 16:9, or would this be too difficult due to differences in the camera HW? The issue I find with landscape filming is that you often want to catch something quickly but safely holding the device in portrait is considerably easier.
Ha ha
1) the internet is actually now called 'Cyber' according to the Donald.
2) It would be much prettier if it was smooth but nobody uses the iPhone without a case, so....
3) If you use the volume button as a shutter it works well in landscape. If you hold it down you shoot a whole sequence of shots and you are more likely to get a good one. I do it a lot.
Awesome video I guess drinking and cruise ship driving is not a great idea. I mean, doing a runner is just awkward.
