Of all the people on here bashing these spectacles, how many of you use snapchat? These are aimed at youngsters who don't much care about privacy and are so used to having cameras jammed in their faces, this won't even make them blink. This doesn't need 3D, AR or VR or anything else. It's just quick fun videos of your friends to share with your friends. It's not about walking into the changing rooms at the pools to perv, that would be easier done with a phone unless you like staring straight at your stalking victims.

Who knows, maybe it'll take off, maybe it'll crash and burn but i doubt they spent a lot on R&D. It's a camera on some glasses. It does one thing

Being one-eyed and split-brained was the creepiest thing about Google Glass.
Not even close.  The creepiest thing is that you never know if you're being recorded and you are recorded without your consent. It's just wrong. There's a reason the users are/were called "Glassholes."
True, that is an obvious reason. I am giving a deeper, subconscious reason. One-eyedness and facial asymmetry are used to convey sinister character or intent; any horror flick make-up artist knows this.

Glass inspired instant, visceral hatred whether it was turned on or not. We're wired from infancy to respond favorably to an evenly bilateral, binocular face.
Yes, the Minotaur aspect is creepy too.  But don't you think a binocular version of this would also inspire visceral hatred?

People no longer have a reasonable expectation of privacy in any public space. Everyone is constantly being recorded without their express consent, everywhere they go. This argument is a non-starter.

if someone is wearing these in the gym locker room, you may have a point. Otherwise, not. The next generation will think nothing of cameras embedded in everything.
If someone insists on engaging others with those things on, they should have a reasonable expectation of getting punched in the face. Your attitude is clearly shared by the creators of the device.  But I think you're wrong about "the next generation." People do understand the difference between this and security cameras.

Not so much, is my point. These look just goofy at worst, whimsical at best. Google Glass looked android and sinister. It's all in the design, as usual.

If the glasses have an in-use indicator like FaceTime cameras on the Macs, then that's easily solved. I think snapchat is attempting to address this with the 10 second per touch limitation. If someone is touching their glasses every 10 seconds then obviously something's up.

And yes any device can be hacked to defeat such indicators, but if somebody wanted to surreptitiously record the person they were talking to, there's plenty of other better ways to do it.

And that's where this becomes about our own comfort levels. If we cant trust the person we're talking to, then we probably shouldn't be discussing sensitive information with them anyway, as they could have concealed recording devices.

These devices promote personal accountability in public. I absolutely would take issue in a private setting, but there is no reasonable expectation to privacy in a public area anyway anymore, even with only another person.

Snap is trying to position to be acquired by TMZ and corner the market on voyeuristic videos.  Sexting is the only reason that mess of an application even exists.

Would have been better if it records from both lenses to be shared to other users to be viewed like VR.
That may be the eventual idea. Here's one of the jobs they have open, this one for a computer vision engineer:

    https://boards.greenhouse.io/snapchat/jobs/193727#.V-abJZBHarU

It's inevitable that someone will do this with 3D or stereo-capable video, if Snap doesn't do it. The current, next hardware problem is how stereo video will be viewed. Presumably that's the kind of weable that Apple has been working on, judging from their patents for video display glasses.
If it indeed recorded from both sides would viewing it from glasses make it 3D or a giant looking "screen"?

    interesting.

You all may call it dumb, stupid, etc. May be it is for you. And may be it is, as an everyday thing to use. But I can see the niche this is aimed for. For the young kids, advertisement, promotion, celebrities' social media posting, etc. This isn't going to be the next big thing but more like what Go Pro is.
And are any of these groups ever keen to wear glasses?

Didn't someone at Snap, Inc know about how badly Google Glasses failed?
Does someone at Snap, Inc have any taste?
Does someone at Snap, Inc know how creepy you look with these glasses?
Does someone at Snap, Inc know that using these in a movie theater is a federal crime?

Hopefully, the Snap, Inc customer who uses this isn't a child molester or sexual predator.
