I think Europeans consider Apple (or any company) as a group of people who make up the company - where as we see Apple as 'a' single computer company. It's British English vs. American English is all. He's not incorrect in saying it that way, we just aren't used to seeing it like that. Our language is similar - but not the same so things like this tend to stick out when we don't expect it.
