Instead I bought an Ibook last night off the Apple website  In a few days, I will be the proud owner of a 700mhz G3, 256 SDRam, 30gig HD, Combo Drive, with the optional Airport card, and Airport.

Now, I have to learn an entirely new operating system. I sure hope that Airport installs easily. Any tips for a 100% Apple Rookie?

At least buyers remorse hasn't set in

Lucky new iBook owner! You shouldn't have any problems. My friend's girlfriend bought one and was using it in minutes...with OS X. She hadn't ever owned or used a Mac before.

If you got questions...this is the place. Good, informative members here.

*smiles* I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and impressed with it, honestly. Airport is easy. The OS is vastly superior to anything else on the market, and it is very user friendly (good thing since the Help is a bit of a problem in the initial 10.2 release).

What are you getting your new computer for?

I have friends and family that have been preaching Apple to me for years. Because I have always wanted a laptop, and am tired of the nightmare that is Microsoft, I have taken the plunge.

Whoa. I slept on the couch last night for 3 hours... now I see what sleep deprivation does to you. I read Donny's comment "What are you getting your new computer for? " as "Where are you getting your computer from?" That's why I quoted Dallenb as saying it was from the Apple Store... sheesh, get some sleep man.

As for "showing you the error of your ways", no need to get snippy there bro, just correcting/razzing you on that one. It's iBook, not Ibook.

You won't last to see a triple digit post count here with skin that thin. Lighten up dude.

Oh, Tibook? I don't know, is that something like the TiBook?

(winking smiley inserted to show you that I'm saying that in fun, FYI)

Edit - almost forgot to say congratulations! You're going to love the Mac. Welcome aboard!

    Oh...no. I already have a car. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> I could have bought a different toy though, like a '69 Camaro, a '70 Plymoth 'Cuda, or even a motorcycle. Instead I sunk the money into an iBook.

    Music to my ears.

There are quite a few threads floating around here on AI, maybe I or one of the other members can dig some of them up for you. I'll post my favs right quick-

<a href="http://www.indigofield.com"; target="_blank">Proteus</a> - Chat app that handles AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo!, Jabber...stable, pretty, and the way it handles messages in one window is nice.

<a href="http://www.adiumx.com"; target="_blank">Adium</a> - Even though I use Proteus for almost all of my chatting needs, on the few times that I must enter a chat room I use this. Customizable beyond belief.

<a href="http://www.xlife.org/aquisition.php"; target="_blank">Acquisition</a> - Best gnutella app for Mac OS X period. Limewire is fugly and slow and Java, get the Cocoa front-end to it.

<a href="http://homepage.mac.com/frogblast"; target="_blank">Frogblast</a> - For all of your Hotline needs..supports all of the 1.8 featureset except for 'Administrate Users.'

<a href="http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/"; target="_blank">OmniWeb</a> - Great little browser. Nice source view. Though some other people don't like it for its lackluster support for some standards, I love it for being a browser developed soley for Mac OS X, which shows a lot.

A few other notable mentions are TinkerTool, MacJanitor, and MOX Optimize.
