God damn you apple. Fix Siri. Google now on my iPhone destroys Siri no question. People are saying: What the fuck is this company doing ? FIX GODDAMN Siri
I defended Apple/Siri for a long, long time. Then my wife's work issued her a Samsung phone with Google Now.

I find it very, very difficult to believe how much better Google Now is than Siri. I mean, I've purposely handicapped my Google Now queries to try and make it a fair fight, but to no avail. I can literally sneeze into Google Now and it would know that I really meant, "Find me a flight that leaves San Francisco tomorrow between 3 pm and 6 pm and gets me into Dallas non-stop."

    Google Now: Done.
Siri: Do you want to call your contact Francisco Jones?
If Cook doesn't fire someone over this then he should be fired.   Walt Mossberg just had a great article about this.  Of course his examples were fixed after he twitted them, but Google assistant on Pixel is supposed to be even better.
nonsense. Gruber tried the same contextual queries on google and found they failed there too:

To be fair, I tried the same two-step sequence (when’s the next debate?; add it to my calendar) with Google Assistant running in the Allo app on Android, and it failed in the same way. I remain unconvinced that Siri is behind the competition, and even if it is, I don’t think it’s by much.

this shit is hard and nobody has nailed it yet.

so much for firing Cook over [whatever my gripe is]. dont quit your day job.

Buy Watson, or IBM as a means to acquire Watson.
Seriously? You never buy at market cap, so Apple would have to use up perhaps all their cash to acquire IBM. And it'd probably be a culture clash. Couldn't think of a more strategically risky move tbh. The whole VW Group is way cheaper: 1/3 the price. Acquiring Netflix is way way cheaper—something I think Apple should still consider. No one understands new content like Netflix and they are the number one streaming brand in the world right now. Add to that Apple going after rights to stream sports for every major sport worldwide and they'd still have plenty of money left over and would own the TV business. AI, like everything else in tech is the long game. TV and sport are something to take hold of now so you can become the king of the usable living room.

And with HomeKit it gives you a chance to use that content motivator to become the home hub for automation and eventually use the content leg up as a subscription way to sell them a great AIO TV. Sport, movies, TV, automation, gaming and apps all from a centrally located AIO television. Throw in a bit of live news and you're cooking.
I just love the delightfully ironic idea of perennial "underdog" Apple buying out their old enemy IBM.

It would just be another bloated merger. i don't that as a boon to anyone.

It wouldn't be very good to more than quadruple the headcount: Apple=115k, IBM=380k. They'd be best just partnering on enterprise products. Swift is a key element here. Server software development could do with the same kind of simplification seen on desktops. With the scriptability of languages like Python, Node, PHP and the performance of a compiled language rivalling/exceeding Java (no JVM needed bloating memory usage), it can be a great server-side language but enterprise support/APIs are needed. IBM has to build their own tools just now to improve Java memory usage and concurrency:

    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/j-multitenant-java/

Node can address some of Java's flaws but Javascript doesn't have the raw performance of a compiled language, lacks enterprise APIs and wasn't been designed as a full programming language from the outset so has been patched up with things like Typescript, ECMAscript 6, Require. Client-side development could be so much easier, they could even replace stylesheets with Javascript like JSON and then you can animate everything, have style objects with inheritance.

IBM has their own enterprise products so they can integrate Apple's tech with them and Apple can use their services to boost their cloud capabilities, server-side data and AI. Having compatibility server-side makes it easier to adopt Apple products client-side. Managing a server should be as simple as iOS, managing security, installing software. Consider a small health clinic, they want to manage data. They should be able to sign up to an IBM cloud service container, visit an app store and install VPN, enterprise mail, DNS, SSL, databases, calendar sync, CRM and all their health-specific data apps as simply as it happens on iOS and it can be done using an app or browser on iOS secured with encryption keys behind touch id rather than passwords. This would all integrate best with iOS/Macs so those would become the recommended choices for businesses.
