How many people who had fake accounts opened in their name still are not aware of getting ripped off. Are they getting the money back, or is that to complex to figure out?
I have my mortgage through Wells Fargo, which comes with a complimentery checking/ATM account which I use once a year to preschedule a payment while I'm on vacation. I went to a branch the other day and asked to see on screen if there were any fake accounts, which there were not, but I still want to move my mortgage to some other bank. At the time I refinanced they were the best deal, but now I just want a different bank. My main bank was more expensive for some reason but I'll check again. I can't in good conscious stay with WF after this incident.

I was planning to move, but them lettting John Stumpf go without a golde parachute is enough for me not to switch banks. It would've been a huge inconvenience for me, but I still would have done it had they not made that move. Let's be clear that WF is the only bank to have been unethical—they're simply the only bank to have been caught pulling such a large scam. Hopefully that particular cancer has bene removed, but I'm sure something else will crop up.

If Wells Fargo can rip off thousands of customers for millions of dollars and no one go goes to jail, what makes you think anyone really cares about this. Yes a police report is filed and maybe if a cop pulled the thieves over and saw the phones on the back seat they would get caught but otherwise no one is really going to bother with this.
One thing has nothing to do with the other.   Wells Fargo may be the bigger rip-off, but Wells Fargo's unethical antics doesn't make people feel unsafe.  A mob of kids in a mall does.   My bet is that there's a pretty good chance these kids do get caught and/or Apple bricks all the phones.   Some idiot may buy them anyway, but that's the chance one takes when you buy something that's obviously "hot".

The stolen phones can certainly be used for spare parts. The logic board will be useless to whomever ends up with it. I imagine that the LCD would fetch the most money. Sometimes selling used items parted out is more valuable than the whole. The top nine most popular parts for the iPhone 6s will cost around $400 on ifixit.com. They sell the logic board for a whopping $299.95!

can apple implement something like self destruct if it is open shell not follow specific sequence?  (sammy battery installed might help if open incorrectly ;-).  any hissing sound should be enough to prevent harvest of parts)... like LCD plaque, camera auto-focus disable, etc. etc. Logic board EEPROM wipe should be easiest.  activate GPS GML location and send few pokemon to the thieve... put a game together call it "catch the thieve" would get very popular. .. get too much ahead of the time  i guess.
