The touch bar is great but doesn't it beg the question of when Apple will have a touch screen laptop? I personally don't care much but for Microsoft and others it will be a marketing goldmine.
It's called the iPad Pro. Came out a few months ago; see apple.com
Cook, is so laid back that I don't find him "exciting" at all. Phil's okay, but still, same dialogue. Thinner, faster, ....blah blah blah. Where is the magic? They need some new speakers.
Touch bar looks really neat. But no news on Mac Pro or mini. I think both those products are dead. And cheapest 'current' Mac starts at $1299. If you want a cheap entry point to the Mac it's old technology (but best battery life).
Is it just me or anyone else thinks that touch bar is gimmicky? Pretty much all the things they demoed could be easily done with touch pad and on-screen controls with a better view angle.
Who wants to touch their screen in laptop mode? I'm constantly wiping fingerprint smudges off my iPad.
Sad to say but the Microsoft event was more exciting then this.
Surface Studio is fresh and eye opening.
What Cook showed today is stale and productive.
I didn't watch the MSFT event so can't speak to that. I think what Apple's put up today is really very good. My daughter is going to totally love the new MBP. I will order today if it is available to order today.
HOWEVER, Apple has a tendency to focus on things people don't really care about. They're making trade-offs that I wouldn't make. Thinner or longer lasting battery? What would you choose? They chose thinner, I'd go with a better battery. Thinner or tougher? They chose thinner. I'd go with tougher. Thinner or less expensive? they chose thinner. I'd go with cheaper. It doesn't matter that the 15" MBP is 14% thinner, especially where we're talking about like 3 millimeters. Faster, stronger, cheaper, longer lasting, etc. people get more excited about. They're droning on about apps I am not interested in. How much?
People claim they don't care about this but they do. That's why you had people bitching about no MBA with Retina display when they could have purchased a rMBP just fine. People hate on Apple's obsession with thin but then when Apple introduces something thicker (like 3rd gen iPad) they complain about that too.
Tim...please. Show us the new stuff. 15 minutes of other peoples reviews, pictures, quotes. Get on with it.
You know, Steve Jobs did this too.
It was way worse under Steve Jobs. You'd have entire events with him sitting behind a computer demoing software and then maybe the last 15 minutes he'd announce a new laptop or new iPod.

The problem with this event was that there wasn't enough new stuff to make an event.
Yes, it's a nice laptop, but we've known about the touch bar for months, and even if we didn't it certainly isn't the huge deal that the chaps were making it out to be, and I think they knew that.
And I'm sorry but that is not a new design. They should have just put it up on the website.
Willl I buy it? Hell, yes, but that is not my idea of a brand new product.
And what's worse is that we'll have Sog droning on about it until he's distracted by a squirrel or one of those laser pointer things you can get to annoy cats.

wow, a lot of tough cookies to please... Tim you have my sympathy... (it look easy, it is not, it look hard, it damn impossible --- when you do it on your own... i know my limit, so i would kept my mouth shut... some of you must be super smart, very capable, full of creativity and "god is number one and i am the number two" type). scary.
Work environment is PC/ private life was PC but with so many OS issues - moved to MBP since 2011 - no issues just thrills.
To my surprise the new Surface desktop made me want to grab the plastic and buy- same feeling when i got my 1st MBP & Apple Watch - jaw dropping, mouth watering & a mind blow.
2016 MBP refresh - I'm NOT feeling it - some nice changes but not enough to make me spend the big bucks as I did in 2014. The Touch Bar - for anyone with vision issues - it might be a concern - what i saw done on the Surface desktop was amazing & FUN! Didn't see those possibilities with the new MBP. So I'll keep my 2014 MBP - maybe i missed something in the presentation or my expectations were to high - sad to say this because I'm a serious Apple fan. Will wait for the real next big thing.
I kept waiting for a new iMac, given the "Hello Again" tease. Nothing. Thought they at might at least add the Touch Bar to the Keyboard for a taste of the goodies. But no. Checked the store to find that they changed the config from yesterday, putting one faster CPU across the 27" line, and made the Fusion drive standard on the mid priced model, then goosed the price for that model by $600! Yesterday the mid priced model was $1399 including a $100 BTO Fusion upgrade, today its $1999. This is wrong.
Think I'll look for old stock assuming there are still BTO options—probably not. Very disappointed that my needs weren't addressed.
Coming Into this even I was so keen for a new MacBook Pro, I have the 1st gen rMBP 15, so I was very interested in what they were planning on doing. i had a feeling they would stick to AMD, which really sucks to be honest, not a deal breaker. the price here in Australia.....it's outta control $4249 AUD for the equivalent storage and upgrade that I originally got on my 1st Gen. this is crazy, if it had a 10 series GPU, I would be more understanding of the price, this is a massive issue.

Majority of the time soaked up to conceal what really only two machine have been announced.
Someone turn the lights off when you've put the rest of the Mac's in the bin
