If you could name one reason...

...why you especially like having a mac, what would it be?

I read Marc Liyanage (the open source web-technology to Mac OS X guru) saying some think BBEdit is a reason to buy a mac.

Personally, I would have said SoundEdit Pro (Macromedia), but now go for the appearance of the OS.

What would YOU say? And you read the deal right: you can name only ONE thing.

and a one, two, ...

I can fix and deal with nearly all the problems encountered in a Mac even in a network.

"see the new macs are always more simple. no floppy or cd drives, cpu is behind the monitor, the keyboard is transparent and with no cables.. always less stuff"

"i don't know if they sold me the newest model or what... the box is empty.."

There is one overriding reason why I use a Macintosh: the simple user interface, both in software and in hardware. If it weren't for the better user interface (including ease of use and maintenance) I would have bought a Sony VAIO subnotebook and assimilated to the Wintel world a long time ago.

    # 1 reason?

Being able to say 'told ya so' to every PC fool who loses their life's work/job over some stupid error or other. Oops, I just formatted my hard drive, oops, I just poured coffee into the laptop, oops, I just plugged that in while it was turned on. Poor suckers....

I just like the hardware because it feels well engineered. There's a decent quality of build. With the very occasional exception.

Though I have to say, my ThinkPad feels really nice and solid, and it's a good bit slimmer than the iBook.

    Sorry, I just can't resist...

Number one reason: own a piece of history before it's too late!

Hate to break it to you, but if they are clumsy (or stupid) enough to pour coffee into their laptop, they are probably stupid clumsy (or stupid) enough to pour it into their iBook.

The combination of Apple hardware and Macintosh software is a very elegant solution to my computing needs.

    What Overhope said.

I'm not a geek or a techie. I don't want to spend my time "fighting" the computer, downloading this driver, crashes and weird, out-of-the-blue freezes/glitches, figuring out why this sound card conflicts with that utility, etc. That's no kind of life, and I never have to do that on a Mac. Not in 9 years anyway.

It just "fits" me and the way I like to do things. I learned on a Mac and it just feels right to me, especially these days with OS X hitting on all cylinders...

I feel in control of the computer...not the other way around.

#1 reason - Digidesign ProTools for windows is a joke.

(p.s. #2 - reliability, #3 - superior OS, hey i even thought OS 9 was better than windows 9x & XP, and OS X is even better)

no viruses....my inlaws computer is sending tons of stuff to ours by way of entourage (my kids use it still...must soon change them to mail)....luckily the nasty infected files won't open on our apple hardware (.exe files...my kids tried to open them before i could tell them not to...but no harm, no foul and i get to give the kids a lesson in how to look for mail with viruses--usually look for the poor english structure in the message---never open .exe files or .vbs files etc)...but i feel bad for my inlaws...they now have to try and get rid of this virus on their pc and they are older and not very good with computers and are 2000 miles away so i can't go help them...perhaps next time they will listen to me and buy a mac...g

    Mac OS X.

Why would you use a Mac if not for the OS? Because it looks funny?
