I use mac's at work along with PC's. Had a PC at home for a while. Firmware update over a year ago fried it (never buying a dell again) brought my work Macbook air home for my work at home days (great machine). Wife also used it for work stuff, took a while but she got used to it. Seriously started to look at Macbooks for a big (once every few years) holiday gift for my wife. Looked at macbook air (8GB, non retina) Looked at macbook (to slow, 8GB ram, $$$) so I focused on new MacBook pro. No USB A (not a deal breaker) good size/ weight. Touch bar Hmm don't care. So Macbook Pro ESC, ok now I looked at price core i5, 8gb ram 256GB for $1500 Nope. kind of bummed. Start looking at PC's. Lots of options but I settled on a Surface Pro 4. Retina screen, core i7, 16gb, 256gb (also picked up a $35 128GB SDXC card to store photos) $1499 +$110 for keyboard cover. Comes with the Pen no extra cost. Yes it comes with windows 10. I use it at work, so does my wife and i like it so no issue here (Like OS X too). We are both aware about malware, don't click on links etc so no issue with that. We will see how this falls out. But so far I'm happy with my purchase, I think I got a good deal on a great piece of hardware. So I guess we are sorta one of those switchers. I did also pick up a refurbished iPad Pro 9.7 with pencil for my self. The pencil is amazing!
Well, if Mac users are switching, they're not doing it at Microsoft stores
FWIW, the MS store at Lenox Mall in Atlanta was pretty busy on Saturday. Usually when I walk by it it's dead, but it looked maybe 70% as busy as the Apple Store at the same mall this time around. Maybe they're building a small amount of momentum
What a company never tells is how many people are switching in the other direction. Suppose 1000 people switch from Macbook to Surface but 900 people switch from Surface to Macbook. If Microsoft "forgot" to mention the second figure, what is the first figure really worth? Tim Cook also uses this trick. According to him, every quarter more and more people are switching from Android to iOS, and yet the average market share of Android has only been growing the last 3 years at the expense of the iOS marketshare. Only real sales figures provide correct information.
The surface ads crack me up. An artist or designer touts the surface because they "can't write on the screen of a mac" Uh....you can't write on the screen of your TV either. Why are you comparing your surface to a mac and not the iPad? Oh wait...because reasons.
I'd venture that Apple will generate more revenue, and certainly more profit in FY2017, from AirPods alone than MS generates from the entire Surface product line.

So you paid over $100 more for the Windows device because the MacBook Pro was too expensive? The advantages you list are i5 versus i7 (which amounts to a trivial (5%) real world difference in laptops) and 8 versus 16 gig of RAM (which may or may not be noticeable for your usage patterns). Oh and a pen. Personally, I would have stuck with macOS (and been happy to save money in the process).
So basically. If they had 15 people switch last year and now they have 20, the can say more and more people. The problem is they can't disclose the numbers because you would just laugh at them. Report the actual sales if you want to show how much better people like your product.
Exactly this.
Report sales numbers if you want us to believe any of it, Microsoft. All we actually know about these two products is: Apple has seen more launch orders for the new MBP than any other computer they've ever released, and Microsoft has written off the last 3 generations of Surface at a loss.
Not buying it. Literally or figuratively.
Report sales numbers if you want us to believe any of it, Apple.
Microsoft certainly got their desired result which was for Apple blogs and tech sites to pick up this story. 339 comments (so far) over at MacRumors. 65 at 9to5Mac, 97 at The Verge. Exactly what Microsoft wanted.
I really want to live in a world where it is a requirement to validate your statements with facts. This could be true but the number of conversions is left out so we do not know if it is a major deal or fluff...
Exactly! Just like when Apple says they have Android switcher's. How many more did they have? 15 instead of 10? Have many switched back to Android after trying iOS.
Oh wait! It should only be for other companies and not apply to Apple. Some of you on here are funny. Asking all these questions but never ask the same questions when Apple pretty much does the same thing.
Now don't take this as Apple is doomed! Not even close. Apple is amazing and will continue to do well for the foreseeable future. Although, with this one context, Apple does the same thing. It's all marketing.

Haha. I love it. Well said.

And you don't get to say NO to the updates on W10.
Are you sure you want to switch?
{written on a 2015 15in MBP that has not yet been upgraded to Sierra. Maybe over the holidays, I'll get round to it.}
