Some of you guys have such hubris it amazes me. I personally don't feel sufficiently well-informed to diagnose all of Apple's ills and prescribe exactly what they need to do to fix them. I personally have the nagging feeling that Apple actually knows a lot more about their markets than we do, and that the people sounding off around here would be lucky to do half as well. Yup!

    Conclusion:

Don't question anything that comes from Cupertino. If you do so you're a shortsighted CEO wannabee. There's no such thing as freedom of speech. STFU, get on with your life. If you don't like what their doing, go elsewhere, buy a PC <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

I know what you mean Kelib LOL.

But honestly I always hear people say "Jobs should step down" yet they never say who should be his replacement. I'm not into replacing CEO's just because it "feels" right. Unless anyone knows of another Dynamic Pitchman with Jobs' Resume I think suggestions like these are ludacris(snicker)

Agreed. Apple may not be in the ascendancy right now, but given current market conditions the fact that it is turning a profit at all is justification enough for Jobs to stay.

And Jobs made one of the finest business decisions of recent years: He hired Jonathan Ive.

Seriously, though, I can think of one reason I'd like Jobs to leave - I'd like to see what he'd do NeXT.

Yep, that's right. I'm completely against free speech, and I worship the ground Steve Jobs walks on. Thanks for paying attention.

    Moron.

And yes, many of you are shortsighted CEO wannabees. But hey, if you have no problem with that ...

I don't want to see Steve Jobs leave Apple for a long time. He has gotten Apple so far in the last 5 years. If it wasn't for him I probably would still be using Windows.

I wouldn't give 'Jobs the man' nearly as much credit as 'Jobs the icon.' While he's as good a CEO as any, the cachet he brings did a lot of the work for him, and many of his decisions would not have been trusted had anyone else made them. NeXT was going nowhere fast when Apple graciously bought them, and though they were full of good ideas, they weren't going to last. Apple on the other hand, had the loyalty to thrive (though it waned, many just needed a reason to come back). But Apple were a little short on vision, so together Apple-NeXT made a good union. OSX wouldn't exist without it, and Apple would probably be too far removed from having a real future OS had they waited any longer. But they didn't, OSX is here, and that part of the equation (the software), at least, is pure sunshine.

But, while Apple was doing some important work on their solutions and design strategy, the market made some substantial changes right quick. CPU and Mobo manufacturers went all out pushing the limits of hardware performance and left Apple in the dust. Price competition for components themselves turned PC's into commodities. Performance can be mitigated to a degree with integration and refinement, but price is a reality which Apple and all manufacturers have to face. What defines the low, mid and high-ends has drifted downwards substantially. Apple doesn't have to go into the bargain-basement doldrums (they shouldn't and won't) but they do have to make some serious price adjustments. Edu is in serious decline (as a percentage of edu market). Market-share in general is very important. Apple can mitigate the effects of small marketshare because it has some very good users in it's base -- people who on average buy a lot more expensive software and peripherals than your average porn-loading PC user -- but sheer numbers affect some vital things, like web services and availibilty of convenient service (epecially for older machines) and support in the edu/work-place environments. Sometimes it's just easier to use a PC because that's what your office supplies and supports. They won't support the mac because they say not enough people use them. Many people won't use them cause they're not supported. It creates a bit of a negative cycle.

Lower shipping and warehousing costs too. It's the perfect $999 US "Switchers" machine, and despite the price it'd carry an as good or better profit margin.

I think the cube had/has an AGP slot, as I slipped a Radeon in one.

I do completely agree. I was a great machine with a tiny footprint. Along with the option of almost any display, it rocked.
